Armored baselayer vs jacket?

Friction is a funny thing. It doesn’t care how you look, it just cares about what it burns through to get to the next layer. The armour does something else. I like jackets that make me feel like they aren’t going to give way anytime soon so my skin in next in line. The armour is a bonus for any bony/squishy bits that get landed on.

My issue with most armor is that it is in place for the first hit and then is happy to rotate out of the way as you slide. Incorporating it in a leather suit fixes that multiple ways. Straps to hold it in place over a joint fix that. I wouldn't have much faith in that shirt letting me walk away from a slide without some serious burns. Even if you aren't on 400 series highways, 80 to 100 km/h is common. That can win you a +/- 100 ft slide.

Actually thats what I like about that baselayer. Its tight so it should stay in the correct position rather than twist around. But thats in a perfect world. Good point about the speed. Leather might look a bit overkill on my 25hp dual sport though hahaha

Get a buddy to grab and twist the armor. If they can twist it out of the way, so can the road.

I'm not saying you need leather but personally, I would want something more than a base layer to help me in a slide.

Not sure about that particular product, it says it’s got abrasion resistance at impact zones, so I’m assuming the other areas are made from toilet paper?

imo go with something traditional, instead of these fad fashion things. Get the best protection you can afford.

It's meant to be worn under something that prevents road rash.

I'm assuming this type of armour pretty much negates benefit of a mesh jacket in hot weather.

Different gear for different types of riding.

I wear something similar under a jersey for dirt riding.

I'd keep scouring FBM. The winters long.

Something like this.

Get something Textile for street rides.

I'm a strong believer in "you're going to wear, what you want to wear" when it comes to riding, no matter what others will tell.
I've seen everything from a tank top and flip flops and a beanie helmet to full race leathers and carbon fiber helmet.

So do your research and wear what you feel is the most appropriate for you.
Just remember when it come to motorcycles it is not a question of "IF" it is a question of "WHEN"..

Good catch, it actually does state that:
"Designed to be worn under your normal riding apparel, it provides additional motorcycle-specific coverage."

Great point. This is how I look at things at work.

Verdict; proper riding jacket!
