are you supposed to get a "receipt" for fighting a traffic ticket?

hi there, never done this before. i went to the court and gave them my traffic ticket saying i want to request a trial date. they just told me to wait 6-8 weeks, then i left.

hours later i was like grrr... what if they lose the ticket, it will be like i didn't pay it and there's no proof that i went to the court.

any input is greatly appreciated.

They stamped my ticket "received" and gave it back to me to hang on to. They only took that Request for Trial form from me.
