Aprilia 660 recalls

Although I'm not surprised to see this, I wasn't expecting to see it this early. Wonder what they do with all the motors they pull. Crush 'em?

Wow!

That's quite a recall.

Well beyond the chaffing wires, missing reflectors type of stuff you usually read about.
DIdn't honda replace all the 250 engines (or was it 125?) due to oil issues? Problems happen in the supply chain. I wouldn't want to be the con rod manufacturer that is getting the bill for this.

likely the mfg who assembled them would pay for sorting and scrapping of bad engines. This bill would be passed down the line to whoever supplied the bad parts.

Before the vstrom bros get here, Id still buy one in a heartbeat

Only affects 700 bikes worldwide. For that, it's not worth fooling around rebuilding them. At least they caught it, and did something about it, early.

Honda had a crankshaft-replacement warranty on the CBR300 a while back, and they had dealers rebuild the engine. Honda rarely supplies "crate engines", but it appears that Aprilia is not averse to doing so. An engine-rebuild on a cheap model wipes out all hope of profit margin ...

Not dissimilar to the recent Ducati recall for bad valve guides on the Multistrada V4 where they just swapped the motor to be safe.

Always a risk buying the first run of any vehicle, cars included. There's often teething issues...

bad deal for Aprilia
nice to see them step and do the right thing though

was looking at a 660 Tuono last week at the dealer
maybe it's just me, but it had really cheap look to it
strange in that the brand usually shouts quality in the looks department

not sure on the colour, though yes, it was ugly
everything else just looked cheap
whereas the other Apes I've seen have a real quality look to all the gadgetry

good to see aprilia on it ..but

hate to say it- the plain jane + reliable cbr1000f is looking pretty good right now with its accord like reliability and very reasonable low cost..

vrooom vroom said the boring honda
see post #7

recalls happen, but a toy should bring you maximum joy, not be utilitarian

most things are built to a price point, bean counters always win out in the end,
