Applying for jobs? Ever wonder why you don't get called back?

I regularly post up job ads on kijiji and have written on there please attach your resume, availability and references.

I get responses with their phone number or no resume or just a comment "hi, I'm interested" or "I can do this"

Do you really expect to be called back?

You have to also keep in mind that there are trolls. :)

If they cant get it right 1st time i guess they shouldnt be getting the job anyways so good on you that Darwin's theory works.

I can do that.

I am job?

The easiest solution is to put your phone number, reference, and a professional/business e-mail address in your resume (which they should already be, if your resume is done right.)
Then you just need to upload your resume, and maybe add a short message saying you're interested in the job and would like for them to get back to you as soon as possible; maybe include when you're available to start.

A very important thing to remember also: DO NOT LIE. And people hate comic sans; stay away from comic sans.

I think it's funny that people/companies advertise for job opportunities on kijiji. Personally, I wouldn't respond to any 'ad' for a job listed on kijiji, let alone upload my friggen resume with personal info to whoever may be on the other end. If a company is too cheap to take out proper advertising, and too cheap to designate an appropriate method for collecting and perusing my credentials (one that ensures my privacy), that says a lot about said company. I think, therefore, that the responses you're getting off of kijiji are indicative of the types of people that use kijiji to find jobs.

LOL, I'm not surprised.

If they're unable to follow simple instructions right off the bat, then it's very simple to cut down your list of applicants.

Most small businesses can't afford what you're talking about. Kijiji is awesome!

Kijiji is awesome and I think it has more potential than the parent company (ebay) in the Canadian market

The problem is that people still don't know how to use it (the example at hand, "hi, I'm interested"). But more and more people are getting into it, and it is going to kill Autotrader, Workopolis, as well as take over the whole private classified market.

I wonder how the wage negotiation would go?

Paying $15 per hour?
I'll do it for $25 per hr .. start tonight. I'm doing you a favour here bro...

You should see some of the bar & hospitality postings.

"downtown toronto bar hiring full time servers. send resume"

Doesn't even have a name, say what days are mandatory, doesn't say what bar, no address or even an intersection at the very least.

& they're asking us to forward our resume with our address, phone number, and (as per the industry standard) a picture of ourselves? Think of how had that is for women...

I agree with having a decent name. But to say only a "professional" email in today's day in age is bullshitte. I had this conversation with my mother (high level manager at Walmart) and she thought the same as you guys. I explained that not everybody has access to a 'Rogers' account or what have you. There should be bother wrong with a yahoo, gmail, or hotmail address nowadays. Of course it shouldn't be anything stupid, but whatever comes after the @ symbol is irrelevant.

The extension is not the problem, the first part is. SEXYbrit... yeah, SEXY is not very professional. neither is the 69.

neither would be humanslayer_51@rogers.ca or 420dude@...

That's what I mean by professional; not the extension. I personally use gmail, iirc.
As for before the @, I use FirstNameMiddleInitialLastname

Under Armour just opened their first store in Canada and advertised their job fair on Craigslist, which was held in a Hilton Hotel...
I got hired and I'm making 13+ an hour for part time retail to start.
So yes, in some cases legit companies do use these websites for exposure.

Buddies at my old job (Shoppers) are still stuck under 11 bucks after 4+ years, that's a ****ing shame...When I started there about 4 years ago I was at 10 bucks, with a dollar extra for nightshift. Their computer system ****ed up and would pay me 11 bucks an hour every shift, I didn't complain...I just felt bad for the guys who had been there for years before me and were making less, now years later they're still making less than what I was 4 years ago!!
