Anyone taking Intro to Track on Aug 11 at TMP?

I just submitted my registration form for Aug 11 intro to track at TMP. Anyone else from the forum going too?

I've been thinking about it.
Was wondering if anyone who has already taken it could chime in on why they thought of the night.
Might be going on a family vacation that weeken but if not I should be in for Saturday night if not Sunday too.
Suit, helmet, boots and gloves.
Lights taped and water wetter in the radiator. I thinks tht all you had to do eh?

Maybe also wire to tie the kickstand up?!

Anyone more experienced can tell us if we need to safety wire other stuff as well?

I have been looking at it as well, just need to figure out how i can get the bike there

I'm personally thinking about riding it down to Cayuga with a backpack on my shoulders, but then again, I'm only 30mins away or so.. Would consider renting a trailer or another similar solution if I combine with someone. My cage has a hitch already..

I took it a few years ago.

Its quite good if you're new to the track.

Just ride your bike to the track. Its a tame course where you mostly just follow the instructor in circles.

I wouldn't worry about binning it, unless you ride stupid foolishly and/or beyond your limits.

Just tape up lights and water wetter, and thats it for the bike. Need full gear and back pro too.

In order to pass inspection for the Intro to Track course, I would:

Replace anti-freeze with Water-Wetter/distilled water
Tape up Headlight/Taillight/Turn-signals (painters-tape is recommended)
Remove Mirrors (Tape up if mirrors have integrated LEDs)
Disconnect/Remove fuses (whichever is easier) for Headlight/Taillight/platelight
Remove/tape up any plastic reflectors (usually on forks/rear)
Remove your License plate
Kickstand does not need to be zip-tied (you will be going on/off the bike often)
Safety-wire not necessary

Otherwise, just be sure your bike is in safe and working order (i.e. good tread on tires, good chain slack, proper brake functionality etc.)

If you're riding there, this can all easily be done at the track (other than fluid change); it really shouldn't take more than 20 mins or so.

Thanks a lot! Is the "remove mirrors" mandatory, or I can just tape up the mirrors and fold them in?

Hey Corsara, I was thinking of taking this course too. If I do end up going, I'll pitch in for a trailer with you or even just ride to the track. Seems like it would be a good course to help with leaning into turns better.

Yeah, sounds good, let me know if you're going. I'm actually taking the course because I want to learn the rules, flags, how things go, etc., so that I'm prepared and comfortable to do full track days after that. Also, I hope that it's not just "follow the instructor in circles", but they'll also give us a chance to hit it harder at some point too, hope I get more fun in that respect than what I already get on the highway ramps...hmm

Happy to help. On the tech sheet it does say to remove the mirrors, though I have noticed that taping them up and folding them in (sometimes even taping them down to the fairings so they don't move) is acceptable.

I'm thinking of doing this too. I will probably also need a lift. Where do I sign up for it? or is it a show up and go kinda thing?

You'll get a chance to learn all the flags, concepts of cornering and all that. As well as following the instructor for many laps.

I believe at the tail end, they let everyone go for a free for all for a few minutes.

Its a fun course all and all, and I applaud this cause it will prepare everybody better and make for a smoother event for when they hits their first real track day, as they will know the protocol and sort of what to expect, without the hand holding.

Thanks for the info, it is helpful!

Also, according to this post (http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforu...-11-and-12th&p=1839659&viewfull=1#post1839659), it will be 3-to-1 students to instructor ratio, so I would assume students will be split into groups of similar skills and comfort level, which sounds promising :) If that is so, I think following the instructor at a pace that is good for me and the others in the group would be great, we'll get to learn the track and best lines by following the instructor, and still maybe go fast. Can't wait!
