Anyone own a Garmin Zumo 660?

if you are buying a zumo, which is my understanding is a motorcycle GPS get the 220... it works great rain or shine

I have the Zumo 660, used to use a Nuvi 255W.

The Zumo is definitely better and easier to read, but in direct, full-on sunlight it can still be difficult to see. Mind you, I keep mine at something like 40% brightness; if you crank it up it'll help. All depends on the mounting/viewing angle. I've heard of clip-on shades that sit over top of the unit to help with that situation, but they'd make it fairly bulky.

I have a clear screen protector on a Zumo 660. The display is at a comfortable angle I have no problem reading it in bright sunshine. Also, my brightness is set to like 40-50% too.

If you dont know about it, check out ZumoForums.com <-- the definite source for all things Zumo :)

I have a Zumo 660, and I really like it. I thought the older Zumo 550 was more refined, but I won't do without the lane assist feature, larger screen, better shape and generally faster operation of the 660.

I've been tempted to upgrade to the 665 because the XM radio and traffic features are awesome on trips. However, XM traffic functionality in Canada is very limited, and not really worth the monthly charge.

I also recommend you get the FM traffic module for it. Reasonably handy in a handful of major Canadian cities, and useful all over the US.

I'm considering one myself (currently have a Nuvi 350 in the car). Does anyone know if these ever go on sale at any particular store? The $649 price tag is quite high (esp these days), so if they ever are on sale I wouldn't mind waiting a bit. I recall they were also being sold at the winter SuperShow, but I never made note of the price (d'oh).

Hardly go on sale. I got mine 2 years ago at around the same price from GSPSCity.ca

There are rumors of 2 new Zumos coming out this year, but are low end models. Nothing yet that is known about the "flagship" model. Also, Garmin dont test the devices well, so the software can be buggy. Dont expect to use the 660 as a Bluetooth Hub for your phone. Audio connections seem to have problems. More details on www.zumoforums.com

CDN Tire has some tomtom units on sale in the flyer this week. i think 69.99 and 99.99 (?) don't recall exactly or know if they are even decent units.

It does note lifetime map updates

As much as I dislike Garmin, they are better than TomTOm in my opinion.

Hmm good to know. I'm planning on getting a Scala G9 once they come out locally, so I'm guessing I would have to pair the GPS to the Scala, and the phone to the GPS (which would make it into the 'hub'). Pretty sure the Scala can pair individually to both, but I recall people saying there were issues so to pair through the GPS (mind you, they weren't talking about the 660 per say).

If Garmin is coming out with newer models I might wait. Big reasons I wanted the Zumo was the headset support, route upload/download, music, and to a smaller degree lane assist. A 4" or larger screen is also nice, as I'd also be using whatever I get in the car, replacing the 350 I have now (maps don't even fit on that GPS anymore).

Thats exactly what I do. Except I have a Sena SMH10. There is discussion on Zumoforums on the Scala compatibility with the 66x devices.

...and to a smaller degree lane assist.

I've come to appreciate the help I get from Lane Assist when I'm touring and find myself having to cut through cities.

It really helps warn you precisely which lane you need to be in, instead of that last second mad dash in traffic to try to make your lane. If you tend to tour in unfamiliar territory, it is a huge help.

Good point -- I've never had one that has that, but I can completely see why it would be more beneficial on a bike than a car.

I know some others will knock me for this one, but personally I can't wait until the day we can have JARVIS installed in our helmets lol (Computer AI from Iron Man).
