If you are... which headphones would you recommend? I current have the Xonar STX with the built in headphone amp which drives about 600omhs. Im thinking about getting the AKG 702 or the HD 650. I did some research and im getting mixed results. Some say it'll be fine and some say you'll need a 200-300+ amp just to drive them properly.

Anyone audio heads care to chime in?

Agreed with the sennheisers.... have had a pair for 10 years of regular use before the cable wore out...
Simply put, they're the best around I can think of...
 
I wouldn't buy a pair of HD650s if you're going to drive them with that. The Xonar STX is supposed to be pretty good I think, but the problem is that the inside of a PC is an inherently electromagnetically noisy environment. The sound card is shielded, but it still draws power from the PC's power supply so it's still not exactly ideal. They'll work, probably? (Actually I will check that later) but why drop $500-600 on headphones if you're feeding them with a $150 sound card? I'd save a few hundred bucks and go with the AKG 702, or even look at something cheaper.

And, obviously, most of the headphones you buy from BB or FS are waaaayyyy overpriced crap. Anything good that they accidentally sell is usually marked up by at least 100%.

The AKG 702's are harder to drive then the HD650's. The HD650's are about $300 bucks on ebay so its not that expensive.

I still need to find an audio shop that has these on demo :\. Can't find any.
