anyone have the doohickey tools in toronto?

I think I'd need the rotor pull tool and the wrench. Not 100% sure to be honest though.

I do have an open-air garage, with lawn chairs for style and comfort. Here's what it looks like currently.

I see you use same kind of facilities. I run the plywood under the bike, seems to keep the wife happy.
If you want to borrow the wrench, let me know.

Any chance you are still active and in the area? A friend of mine had a mishap and dropped a bolt into the camchain while doing a valve job in prep for an upcoming ride this weekend which we've taken some time off work for.

If you're around and we could borrow the tool you'd be a real life saver!

Chances are slim.

I used to have the rotor puller and holder wrench from Eagle Mike. Haven't seen them in over a decade and I've moved since then. I'll take a look when I get home to see if they're still around...

FYI, the KLR rotor puller is M22x1.5. There is a motion pro puller on Fortnine that would work. Shipping to the GTA is often 1 or 2 days. Royal Distributing sells the same tool but it looks like it's only available from the warehouse. Might be worth a call to Royal to see how fast they could get it to a store for pickup.

The procedure is here if you need any hints: Mark's KLR650 Website - Doohickey Upgrade (Idler Shaft Lever)

If you could find it, that would be awesome!

That's our current plan, to get that puller. The issue is that it seems you need the holder. There's some surface area where you could perhaps hold the flywheel with a crescent / adjustable wrench and I think this would work to get it off. But to put it back on - the torque is 150 ft.lbs. I don't know that a crescent wrench on an angle into there is going to hold on what little surface there is there to get it onto. But that may end up being what we have to try.

Thank you for your offer of help + links. Appreciate it a lot

Thanks! That is a really nice thing to offer.

We did get that kit and the 22 x 1.5 puller does fit. But the strange thing is that the puller is a normal thread.

What this means is that since it screws into the flywheel clockwise (like normal threads) once it is locked in and you have the inner screw screwed into the crank - there's no way to actually create a pulling force on the flywheel. What happens when you try to apply a pulling force by holding the inner screw steady and unscrewing the outer piece is that it just unscrews from the flywheel.

It seems to be designed for a system where the inner bolt would end up pushing against the crankshaft creating the separating force. but on the KLR it just goes endlessly into the inside of the crankshaft.

I had a similar puller for my CRF450R back in the day - I was sure it would work but as it turns out that CRF450R puller has a reverse thread on the outer piece which allows you to screw it out without it unscrewing itself from the flywheel.

We considered putting a bolt into the crank so there's something for the inner piece to push against - but we are afraid of it just smushing the screw enough that it doesn't come back out.

Thanks for the help and kind offer to use your prime!!

Try looking for a KLR group or an adventure/offroad group in Facebook and see if there is anyone local that may have one.

You can also try calling dual sport plus to see if they have something or maybe they know if someone that might be able to help.

No problem about the offer on my side.

I did replace mine last year, although it really didn’t need replacing. 33000 on the clock
