Anyone have a friend in Michigan?

I am looking at a bike from the states that doesn't have a title but I need a title to export it. MI state is very easy to get a title but obviously it would have to be done by someone that lives there.

Can't you use one of those broker address for accepting packages / reshipper of sorts?

When I buy my NC700 with a DCT from the USA soon I asked the dealership if my usa address is OK and he said yup.

Did you have any problems exporting it? I talked to the border and they said that the bike has to have a title or certificate of origin to export it.

You have to export it as parts from what I remember. If you get a title you might be able to put it on the street.

I don't need to put it on the street as it will be for the track. I was going to import it into Canada as parts but when I talked to the U.S. border they told me that it had to have a title to export it from the states. I was under the assumption that importing for parts only related to the Canada side and then you wouldn't have to go through the RIV process. I didn't think that the parts had any reference to the states side....maybe I am wrong and the border guys aren't sure? Any one have first hand experience?

I don't think you even need to tell us customs about it unless you plan to bring it back there for a track day later.

You just drive across the border and don't export it? When they ask about the bike then what? Am I missing something or just not fully awake and understanding yet?

Great plan

"Did you buy or receive anything while in the USA"

"NO"

"Who's bike is on the trailer"

" i dont know"

yup, it'll work ;)

You still legally import it into canada

What bike are you planning on getting?
All depends on the whole title issue. I will shoot you a PM when I get something.

I get the Canada side, say you are importing a parts only, fill out the paperwork, pay the fee and on your way. What I don't get is how can you take a bike out of the states without actually exporting it?

You are exporting parts, you do not see US customs on the way out. The only time this would cause an issue would be if you tried to bring it back over for a track day or to re import it.

Like I said you declare it to Canadian customs as parts and 13% tax on the value.

I have been looking into this as well...how do I get it back into the states if I decide to do a trackday down there?

You don't even talk to u.s. customs...show up in Canada with bike, bill of sale, recall letter. Boom

Wont need the recall letter if your importing it as parts.

If that is the case, you wont be able to cross the border with it to do a track day in the US.

I did it as a race bike...I forgot I also needed a letter from SOAR that the bike would be used in that race series
