Anyone have a 100% waterproof back pack?

Hey everyone - I tried to search the forum to see if anyone has posted this question before, but does anyone have a 100% waterproof back pack they use? I am trying to find a bacg to carry my laptop to and from work, and I don't want to worry about rain.

Anyone?

Thanks,
Rob

A common recommendation is one of the waterproof Kriega packs, but I have one. What it actually is is a dry bag inside the nylon shell, so the dry bag part is 100% waterproof but the shell will soak through in heavy rain. This includes the outer pockets since they don't have dry bags. Once it gets wet you have to open the whole thing up and dry it out. I definitely do not recommend Kriega for this purpose.

heavy duty thick wall garbage bag inside the bag. I've done with my work stuff for years and it seems to work

Pretty much need to get a dry bag, AFAIK. I got one to fit my laptop and electronics before it does into my OGIO Mach5

They'd have 100% waterproof ones at MEC, for running Rapids, but a pack might not protect your stuff or you very well if you fall off.

I appreciate the advice - not too worried about fall damage, just water damage. I appreciate the advice.

MEC or SAIL stores or any good marine supply store, as others have said get a dry bag that holds laptop and charger ect. Good one will cost $25 to $50 depending on brand loyalty and last many many years. Garbage bag will work, i like leaving my dripping pack in the garage and bringing my stuff indoors in a dry bag.

Ogio Mach 3 or 5. I rode in a torrential downpour for almost an hour and it was a little moist at the very bottom near the zipper but no water actually made it though the shell. It also has a dedicated pocket for a laptop and as long as you keep it in there the little bit of moisture you may get in a downpour after a long time riding won't be a problem.

Doesn't OGIO have ones that are some sort of hard plastic except for the arm straps and back protector foam?
I remember alpinestars also having a soft full plastic one but I didn't pay much attention because the shape wouldn't allow for proper laptop storage.

If you're looking for something a bit more formal looking, may want to look into Timbuk2. I use one of their messengers to commute to work and it's been good so far.

They make backpacks too

That looks awesome! Do you use it for carrying a laptop ?

I have not carried my laptop in it but it will fit no problem. The other day I had an extra pair of gloves, riding pants liner, jacket liner, some lunch tupperware, and still had a bit of room left. Pretty damn comfortable on my back even when full. The only downside is no waist strap so it does move a bit if you are moving around on the bike...but it does have the chest strap and loops for a helmet strap on the bottom. I'm actually thinking about grabbing on of the duffle bags to strap on the tail for more capacity.

I appreciate this tip and feedback - thanks! I went to the Ogio website and looked at the Mach 3 and 5 - they looked great and reviewed just as you described, thanks. I actually opted for 100% waterproof and ordered the Ogio All Elements Pack - http://ogio.com/moto/moto-backpacks/all-elements-pack.
