Anyone ever had to deal with this?

Out riding the other night on a busy 2 lane Hwy and some girl in a car flicked her cigarette butt up out of her sun roof and it hit me in the visor. Because of the amount of cars I was following a little closest then I would normally be but I wasn't riding up her tail pipe. I was furious but not sure how to handle it. I tried remembering her plate number but it had slipped the old memory by the time I had a chance to write it down. If i had of been wearing a helmet that wasn't a full face it could have really sucked.
Anybody else ever had something like this happen?

Ive had it happen a couple of times. I was ****** too, but at the same time it's difficult to assume that the toss was intentionally at your head, as the car was in motion. Not much you can do about it. Regardless of knowing the plate number, u call the cops they would probably want to see some sort of injury or damage to your bike, which neither seems to have occurred makes your chances almost non existent that the cops would do anything with your complaint. I can almost see when the cops accuse her of tossing the butt out of the window, "waddya mean, officer? I don't smoke." is probably gonna be her answer. But I agree thats it's annoying and quite dangerous when cagers do that crap.

It's not as bad as you'd think. It sucks if the cig butt or a waspe gets caught underneath your helmet though. Typcially, it just bounces off quick and doesn't burn at all. Just startles you and it's annoying.

Never had it happen to me on the bike but i've had it happen to me in a car. I was more ticked off that they were littering though.

I forgot to mention something similar happend to me years ago in a cage. I was in the passenger side rear seat, my boy in shotgun flicked his cig out his window, it flew out, arced and hit me straight in the eye! It's been so long I almost forgot it happend, left me with a souvenir near my pupil

The projectories of cig butts are so unpredictable. I was riding in a group of 4 on 401 near Whitby at night. Saw the glow from the driver side of a pickup truck, and out of the window it went. It hit my buddy's windscreen (in front of me). It floated and caught me on the neck (of all places, in between my helmet and my jacket). I never forget that burning sensation. It didn't do any damage, but at the time, it stung so much I wanted to pull over, rip my helmet off and grab a hose to cool it down.

I do always fantasize that one day I'll be able to catch the flying cig butt with one hand and launch it back into the litterbug's car in a "how do you like them apples" sort of way.

Short of pulling up to the tard at a light and chewing him out there is nothing that you can do. If you call the cops and whine that someone tossed a butt out the window and it hit you all you're going to hear is "so........". Whenever I see someone ashing out the window I know that it's only a matter of time until that butt gets tossed and start looking for a way get around them.

Oh it would have been great with an open face lid. Like seasoning for the bugs you've been eating before hand. I find it gives it a real smokey flavor.
lol yeah happens, you just move along and grumble profanities in your lid.

Serious question: Does anyone here who smokes do anything other than flick their butt out the window when driving? Anyone??

Have some rocks in your pocket, get in front of them and flick one over your sholder. They wont do it again :)

Its part of riding. I doubt it was intentional. Not that its ok to litter and toss your butts wherever you like, but thats the reality of it. If you start getting bent out of shape of every little thing someone does on the road, well your going to have a lot of rage.

Regardless, people should not be tossing out things especially on fire.
Besides they give smokers such a bad image:D

I know it wasn't intentional and ya....I was pretty mad but more for the lack of consideration. Then I thought of the poor guy riding with a half bucket and what it would be like to catch it in the teeth. I don't hold onto that stuff for long. And I certainly didn't mean to start another good image/bad image thread :)

Seriously, you actually can say that and believe it?

It was an intentional act to throw it out the sunroof>everything else is a result of that act.
You shoot an arrow into the air in a crowd and it comes down and impales someone.....I don't think it was intentional? What did you think would happen.

You flick a lit cigarette out the sunroof .........people need to take responsiblity for their actions.

OP should be bent out of shape.

Absolutly agree. It wasn't an accident that it hit the rider - it hit the rider because it was thrown out of the car.

There still isn't much that can be done but put up with it.

When the plants and grass that line the roads is dry, and the weather is hot with no rain in sight, you have a tinderbox just waiting to catch alight.

So if a grass fire starts and then burns down a forested area because of one careless butt it becomes a media event. But if it hits a biker, no one really gives a ****.

Sheesh...butts out windows only means one thing to me: Selfish. It`s easier to toss it out the window than to have a dirty ashtray :(.
