The toughest workbench I had was made from an exterior slab solid wooden door. A sheet of masonite / hardboard nailed on top made for a replaceable surface when it got messed up. Get some folding legs and you're done.

Try Craigslist "Free" column for old doors.

Hdthreshing could do one in reclaimed barn board - spendy though.

pick up one of the many free desks online. Even if you just use the tops, some of those old desk tops are SOLID.
