We fairly recently purchased a 2012 Acura.

Recently, we got a phone call from a company called Research House and, on behalf of Acura, are setting up a "consumer focus group", where they want up to 20 participants to gather together and talk about cars?

Meeting place : Four Seasons Hotel, Yorkville and they say it won't take longer than 2 hours.

And get this, they say they will PAY me $175 cash to attend the session for the bother.

Sounds too good to be true, right?

Ok, somebody out there must know about this, whats the catch?

No catch besides attending. It's legit and they'll actually pay you. No strings.

I was one of the engineering reps at one of these customer clinics. We want input for what they like and dislike about the vehicle etc. Its also a good time to see how customer cars are making out if there are any areas of concern.

I used to do research group participation on a regular basis. Easy cash. The catch is a few hours of your time and boredom.

I went to something like this a zillion years ago and got a similar inflation adjusted amount in cash. They played an ad and we commented on it IIRC. I'd do it again if the timing was right.

The ones to avoid are the time share / real estate boiler houses.

Well, it seems legit, so Im going. Hey, at least I get $175 out of it. :)

They are looking for more people......

If you own and can make one of these timeslots :

Acura only- Wed, Nov 7 at 7:30pm

Mercedes E, BMW 5, Infiniti G, Lexus E or L class (combined session): Wed Nov 7, 530pm and Thurs Nov 8, 5:30 and 7:30

Its at the swanky 4 seasons Hotel in Yorkville, and she says they will be providing refreshments and snacks.

Call 1 800 701 3137 ex 265 to register.

4 Seasons? Awesome. You can use the $175 to pay for parking

Except.... they called me again today to provide more details.

Free VIP valet parking, along with Hors d'oeuvres and fine wine.
Says it will be a first class event.

I'll take it! :)

That's awesome, but you already paid for all that in the MSRP :D

I dont think I've ever met a single person on earth that has ever paid MSRP on a car.

:laughing3:

You know what I mean, it's already factored in :tongue3: but enjoy. I got bent over and given it dry, than had my shirt thrown back at me...

Wow, some car companies have too much money to blow.

Basically, they sit us in a room. VP of sales gives us a spiel about the Acura brand and we watch a short video about what Acura is trying to become.. "man and machine become one" type marketing.

Then they march us to the parking garage, and we enter a curtained area and they show us the new 2014 Acura RLX. They wouldnt let us drive it, but we were able to sit in it and touch it.

Then when we're done, they ask our impressions, and hand us $175 cash.

Oh, in case you are wondering, it looks like an upscale 2013 Honda Accord. Disappointingly, its front wheel drive, (future versions will get a hybrid AWD system). The interior is smallish, and the beltline has risen and the windshield isn't as expansive as Hondas in the past. Acura will have a hard time moving these things just like the last gen. People in this market range don't want front wheel drive.
