no one would let me stop by for a couple min and throw on their pipe? ill hook you up with a coffee or something lol.

Mine used to make that noise with the baffle in. Made the whole thing sound like a child's rattle. Drove me friekin nuts.

Have you de-baffled?

It still vibrates a tad on the over-run, but with ear-plugs in i cant hear it so it doesn't bother me.

Ya baffle is out already. I took the pipe of a week ago and shook it around it sounded like sand or something lose, my mechanic said the backpressure from the vtwin prob busted up the padding. I'm wondering if this is causing the rattle

Have you repacked the muffler?
The packing is usually good for around 10,000 km or so (depending on how hard you're riding it) before it needs to be replaced. The stuff gets burned up, or breaks apart and gets blown out. Might be time to open up the rivets and see what you've got left.

Try going to a custom speed shop as well - they might be able to hook you up with a stainless steel sock that you slip over the core, and then put the muffler packing in around that, filling the pipe. The sock will help prevent blowout of packing in the future.

Later!

No I have not repacked the pipe, I would say there is atleast 40k on the slipon, so I assume that the vibration is indeed the packing? No point in trying someone elses pipe? Thanks for the info Big..

I guess ill try and find a speed shop in gta, get some new packing. If anyone knos any local shop that does exhaust work let me kno (might just buy a new slip on, sounds easier)

If there's 40K on the pipe, I'd be amazed to see any left in the can.
The rattle might be being caused by the core moving around inside the can a little.
You can pick up any 4 stroke exhaust packing - available at just about any half decent bike shop. You don't need the stainless sock - it just helps prevent blowout.

Take the pipe off, shine down the end with a flashlight and see if you make make anything out that's pressed up against the holes in the core. I'm guessing there won't be. Rivets will cost you $5, Packing $20. Time may be an hour or 2 including drilling the old rivets out.

If the packing you get is long and stringy, take pinky finger thickness groups of strands, twist them around a bunch of times and stuff it down the can. At the end of the repack, the packing should be slightly firm, yet still have a spongy feel. If it's not spongy, you've got too much in. Remember, the exhaust expands through the holes in the core and gets muffled by the packing.
