Two young kids killed by a python in NB.

Not making a joke of it as someone has, I don't know enough about snakes to understand how it happened.

I pictured snakes as non aggressive unless hungry or defending themselves. Also thought they ate a small deer and layed around for a couple of weeks digesting it. The NB one went on a killing spree it seems.

Personally I don't care for reptiles as pets. I handled a snake a few years back and it was slippery not slimey. Sorta like a braided line that was lightly oiled. It left a musty odour on my hands. However to each his own.

If the snake was hungry wouldn't it just have eaten the first kid? Gross image.

rock pythons aren't exactly the most docile. full grown ones are known to eat small children in africa. it is also posible that the boys had woken up and were playing with the snake and accidents can happen that way. if the snake was attacking the kids there would be bites on both of them... i have a burmese python (it's known as a gentle giant) and you can put your self into a situation where the snake is crushing you just holding on. a large snake can really only be unwrapped from the tail end...

News said the kids were at a farm and playing with animals in the day time, so they the think the kids may have still smelled like the snakes prey.

very tragic

Yeah, I read that also. I have a ball python (about 3 1/2 feet) & he is very docile but I make sure to wash my hands before & after feeding him. If you smell like prey, snakes are more likely to strike.
