Got a real wacky estimate to reshingle a bungalow on Toronto, looking to get a 2nd opinion. ......

Did they tell you how many bundles your roof needs? And what was the price?

Whats the pitch? Square footage, any oddly shaped roof sections that are technical and require lots of waste/time?

Dont forget you're getting hit with the "****, its cold, and i dont wanna work" tax as well.

not sure of the sqft or the pitch but its approximately a 20 x 30 bungallow, the roof is a hip shape with a small gable in the front.
got 2 quotes in the $5000 naighbourhood, and im pricing it to do in the spring so the "its too cold, and I dont want to work tax" should not apply

The spring includes the everybody wants it done then and we're busy tax. Summer has the damn it's hot and I don't want to be on the roof tax. You can't win.

How many layers on the house already?
Shingle prices have gone up ridiculously the last 5-6 years.

Have a walk around home depot and price out the materials yourself and see if they're in the ball park or taking you for a ride...

OP, good on you for shopping around and planning ahead, GreyGhost you just killed me that made me chuckle. How about fall if OP can wait? I can imagine he can't but just wondering....Damn bs Taxes!

There are just soo many roofers out there. Some will sell you a roof made of gold - some are actually decent and honest.

If you need your roof fix NOW - ASAP - be prepared to pay. Wait till spring - you should be able to get a ton of people to quote / be fair.

Just get a lump sum price and tell them to pound sand about their "taxes"
