Any recommendations for a place to get a key cut?

Lost my main key for my bike, gotta get a new one cut from my spare. I can get the blank from snow city, but I need a locksmith to cut a new one. Anyone got any recommendations for a good one?

Just go to your dealer to get one cut. It cost me $15 for a blank key and get it cut as well as a guarantee that they'll cut another one if it doesn't work.

Any car dealership, or Home Hardware or Canadian Tire can easily trace a key if you have the blank and one original. You don't necessarily have to go to a locksmith.

If you want a key that works don't go near Canadian tire, home depot or home hardware. Trust me. Way too many times I have had to back with keys that don't work. Go to a locksmith. May cost you an extra $1 but well worth it.

Vehicle keys are tricky and, as another poster suggested, going to HD, CT or any other big box store is not recommended. I've used Sure Locks Inc [ <surelocks@bellnet.ca> http://www.surelocks.ca/ ] on the corner of Avenue Road and Eglinton Ave. to have my keys cut. Good service, knowledable staff and reasonable prices keep me coming back to them (I've had two sets cut for different vehicles). If you bring the blank, $2.25 per key for the cutting.

Little bit of topic, but did the PATS key technology get to motorcycles yet or no ?
I assume it might have if the bike is equipped with ECU....

Plus 1 on Sure Locks. They've cut me keys for 2 bike with no issue and they were also able to cut keys for Givi luggage.

If you supply your own blank CT and HD will cut it for free. I've never had a problem so far. HD cut my motorcycle key and my car keys but told me they can't guarantee it'll work. Had no problems. My last car key was cut slightly asymmetrical but it still works fine. If the key only cost you a few dollars just buy a few of them as backups. If you spent a lot on your key then go to a locksmith. Avoid dealer like the plague.

Some bikes have transponder keys, not sure about PATS specifically. My old explorer had the PATS II system that allowed me to program my own keys as long as I had two existing keys but some other systems don't allow this. If anyone needs transponder keys let me know as I have a link for this: $40 key blank + cut + programming

I also had mine cut at Reilly's on Caledonia. They had to order the blanks but once they came in the process was quick. Got three done for about $12.

We make most, but not the transponder type.
Usually $5.50 a key, or a bit more to cut them by the key code #.
Info in my signature.

I ordered kawa key and got it cut free at homedepot said he couldnt charge for the key since it was already mine. Nice guy although didn't promise it would work since he doesn't cut motorcycle keys but it does. Few years back.
