Any race simulations?

Well I'm bored, and maybe someone knows more than me...though I doubt that due to technology limitations.

Are there any motorcycle race simulation games out there? I'm not talking about Burnout Paradise where you go and smash into people, I'm talking about simulations similar to GT5 where the developers take years to simulate the same experience of a certain bike on a certain track. Reason why I'm asking is because I'm likely to not have the cash or time to track for another 2-3 years and would like to get some kind of head start.

GT2-4 worked fairly well for me back when I was younger as a training device on cars; a lot of the cornering knowledge came into play. The only thing that I got murdered on for a week was experimenting w/ the clutch. There was also GTR2 and Need for Speed Shift...but those were after I actually had track experience.

Thanks!

(Have a feeling I will be stuck using a controller though, there's no "wheel controllers" for motorcycles.)

lol um yea...a video game isn't going to give you a head start... that being said the motogp games are your best bet but they suck imo.

Sure as hell did playing GT2-4. The only adjustments I ended up having to make were

A. Clutch work
B. Developing balls of steel (Gs are not simulated in games).

EDIT: I forgot, all GT games also had those pain in the *** license courses with paragraphs worth of information and example videos. Guess that's what I'm going to need lol

How about tourist trophy? Its by polyphonic which are the same crew who made grand turismo. Its for ps2 and is in my humble opinion the best motorcycle racer out there. I also liked the moto gp game that climax made not the capcom gp games. I've never played the namco gp games.

Still none of them are really hardcore simulations but they try.

I played Resistance 2 so I think I'm an alien killing expert plus I'm also old enough that if any mutant apes kidnap a princess then they are in for a world of hurt as long as there are flaming barrels handy.

PS Watch the Top Gear episode where they play a race game then go on the track to see if it helped. Tip: It doesn't really.

SBK 10 or SBK 11 are the best ones out there. The Moto gp games are garbage IMO.

Also these games will not give you any kinda of head start in terms of track riding. Maybe if you're lucky to ride the tracks on the game it would help you learn the lines. But otherwise not gonna help.

Whatever benefit you got out of the car simulator for driving an actual car will carry over into bike riding. There's nothing a bike simulation could add that would add anything that is particular to riding an actual bike like steering, leaning the bike, body position...

....

good point, tyvm lol

Put your head inside an oven for 10 mins, you'll get a good simulation of how it was like racing this weekend.

I dunno, I found Tourist Trophy to be pretty good when you switch the controls over to "Expert" or "Pro" or whatever it was called (long time ago, can't remember now lol) - lets you control the front and rear brakes independently. You can even configure how your rider leans off the bike. I got more mileage out of it than I did GT4, that's for sure. 100% completion :). It's really fun to try and hustle older bikes without much ground clearance around a track, as well as the different Hayabusas and ZX-12Rs. The only thing I didn't really like was that the game makes you unlock every paint scheme of the bikes seperately (dumb) and that the AI is absolutely no challenge whatsoever, like you can lap them in a five lap race. High points are the huge variety of bikes (though mostly Japanese) and tracks, and the pretty good approximation of the physics of riding. The graphics were good for the time but they probably don't hold up anymore (though it was one of the few PS2 games to do HD!)

As far as helping your track skills IRL ... ehhhh, I dunno. Maybe if you were ever to visit one of the tracks that were in the game, but I don't think they'll be much good for our tracks around here. I think it's a good winter diversion. If you get it, the regular PS2/PS3 controller is fine, I think someone actually tried to make some kind of motorcycle controller but obviously it sucked.

Maybe Xbox Kinect makes a game you could learn to drag knee with lol.

Have you really used a racing game to better your driving skills?

You will not get very far with using a game to better your skills on a motorcycle. You are better off getting your butt off your couch and riding around anywhere. A bike requires a lot of PHYSICAL RIDER input while a car does not.
