Any performance mod will get you dropped from State Farm and TD... true or false?

I just found out that any performance mod, which can be as simple as installing a fender eliminator to full exhaust system can render your insurance null and void if you are involved in a claim. Or if they find out they can drop you. Does anyone know if this is true? I asked my State Farm Agent and they were short on details but just repeated it is true for a modification that would increase performance.

Has anyone informed State Farm or TD about their performance upgrade (slip on exhaust, full system, etc) and not been dropped?

I informed them about my Power Commander and they threatened to deny my claim if it was on my motorcycle at the time of an incident.

So they might not outright drop you, but they sure damn can deny your claim if anything happens!

I did
1996 gsxr 750, swapped FI 1999 engine with yosh box ecu upgrade, full hindle system, frame slidders, ape cam chain tentioner.
They just asked me to send them pictures to show all the mods so they can cover them if there is an accedent or theft.
Price stayed the same, they are great.

valued the bike at $4500 (22000 km and not 1 scratch)
$2000 for the exhaust
$500 for tunning

So I guess it depends on the Agent? Toys are you with SF?
Zenice, are you with State Farm too? Can you PM me contact info for the Agent?

not PM
I live in orangeville now but only deal with james clarkson state farm in hamilton.
when I buy new bikes they just do everything over the phone or email. they also drop me down to theft and fire only in the winter. (very hard to get)
Call and talk to james himself.
this is how amazing they are.
I went to the other side of london to get my new bike and didnt get there till 12 at night, lady on the phone told me after hours service could add that bike once I decided to buy it on the spot. (she was new and wrong) I drove from london back to orangeville to get my trailer and go back for the bike. When he found out what happened (after hour service told him) he called me and apologised until I almost hung up on him. the nex week I get $100 in gas card in the mail with an apology letter from him.
amazing agent, will not change even for a cheaper price )whitch there isnt)

Don't ask, don't tell.

And don't do something stupid, like throwing a blatantly obvious turbocharger or nitrous bottle on the bike.

Sleepers rule.

Don't ask, don't tell.

That could be a problem if you crash and they find out after the crash that you've lied to them. You'd get nailed with insurance fraud, and also not have coverage for the crash.
But, as you said. Sleepers rule...

As for TD:

http://www.tdinsurance.com/products...vehicle-insurance/motorcycle/restrictions.jsp

looks like no suspension mods. no frame mods/chops. no performance mods that provide over 25cc of extra power compared to stock. I'm not sure if that's just referring to boring out the engine, or any kind of performance boost like exhaust.

I've been through this once or twice with my brokers. It usually works out that most things they don't really care about. Some things, they will actually cover the value of. The State Farm adjuster took into account the value of my exhaust, but not things like the Corbin seat. And some things, like turbochargers, they are not going to find very funny, but that's pretty extreme.

I guess the agent I spoke with was new or just an idiot. I will definitely give James a call, thx for the info. Maybe they will insure a compound charged zx10r?

Major engine modifications - forced induction, nitrous, engine swaps outside of original displacement category - are going to be a problem at ANY insurance company.

Internal modifications - stuff that's not visible from the outside - aren't going to attract the wrong kind of attention. And if there is a big crash that writes off the bike, validating the horsepower output for being within original design specifications (a) isn't high on the priority list and (b) frequently won't even be possible given the condition of the bike, even if one wanted to do so.

not true.
I have poped the enging in my 91 750 gsxr
I called James today and asked about the 1100 engine I had found.
He said no problem for the 7/11 swap. as long as the engine bolts in and dont have to modifie the frame.
the difference in price is 20 a month. for an extra 350cc
If you have a modified bike call him.

SF told me to run any performance mods by them before putting 'em on the bike. I was told exhausts are 50/50. That said, I had a hindle slip-on on my last bike and SF had no problem with it. It was in the pictures they took. When I bought my current bike I swapped out the stock silencer before pictures were taken so that the Jardine I installed would be documented. Figured this would strengthen my case in the event of a claim, not sure if it does though.

You people worry too much about this stuff. Minor mods such as exhausts and power commanders are not going to concern the insurer if you are in an accident. They don't go around sniffing for mechanical reasons to deny you a claim. If that was the case then nearly everyone in an accident would be investigated for mods. I ask all the people on GTAM who've crashed. Did they send out an investigator to go over your bike at the shop to see if you had aftermarket performance mods? I highly doubt it.

Its only a matter of time before There is a serious claim for lots of $$$ and the insurer sees an easy way to save hundreds of thousands because the bike had a full system on it or an ohlins shock and refuses the claim. Im very surprised It has not happened yet........(or maybe it has)
