any opinions on forward handle rear spool stand

hi all,

I'm looking to get a rear stand and have narrowed it to...

the pit bull forward handle rear spooled
http://www.pit-bull.com/mm5/merchan...duct_Code=F0043-000&Category_Code=rear_stands

or the pit bull rear spooled stand
http://www.pit-bull.com/mm5/merchan...duct_Code=F0003-000&Category_Code=rear_stands

I'm liking the forward handle one a little more cuz it seems like it'd be a little easier to get the bike on the stand.
but just want to know if anyone had any experience/opinions with it.

btw, just noticed the spool plates for the forward handle stand looks like they are able to slide up and down, are they held at a certain height with the tightening of a bolt?

thanks

The forward stand works good, another advantage is the handle is not sticking out the back of the bike. So you dont have to worry about it when your walking around the bike while working on it...Its also handy at the track if you are alone and dont have a kickstand on a track or race bike, so you can hold the handle bar and put on the stand from that position

If you look you can see the stand has a bar that runs under the tire, that is why the lifters are adjustable. Different bikes and tire combinations need different clearance, because of overall tire diameter and the location of the spools on the swingam..Tightening a bolt holds them in your selected position

I have a non-spooled forward handle pitbull stand. Without even ground you're going to have a hell of a time using it and getting it adjusted properly, though I imagine the spooled one is much easier to deal with. I don't have even ground to work on, so yeah, hasn't been effective.

thanks for the responses guys...(actually i was gonna pm you espro about the stand ..... I did some searches here, and found the thread you had posted about the stand last month)
well, it's good to hear some first hand experience with the stand (the company demo videos of any product always seem too good to be true)

thanks Johnny for confirming the height adjustment of the lifters...although I like the advantages this stand has over the rear lift stands....
I'm not liking the idea of the bike being held up by the "tightness" of those 2 bolts.(however, I wouldn't mind if the bike was held up with the shear strength of those bolts)

I'll have to give it some more thought, thanks again for the input.

Here's a picture of the non-spooled stand's adjustments:

I assume the spooled stand is the same, but maybe not. There's two hex socket bolts that connect through a small plate, through the actual swingarm pads and into the horizontally adjustable heads which are in turn connected to the stand itself by pretty large bolts. I got my stand from Bluestreak and it came with the quick adjust pieces for those bolts that you can see. I don't know if they're stock.

The build quality of the stand is as good as it gets, the tag that comes with it says "this stand will outlast your bike", I'm inclined to believe it.

hey espro, thanks very much for taking the time to take a pic of the stand.... although it's not the spooled version, it still really helps.
since the standard version has 2 bolts per side, I'm assuming the spooled version is probably the same (from the website, I thought it was 1 bolt per side)

Yeah, I too agree with the quality, they definitely look heavy duty, and there seems to be nothing but positive reviews for pit bull stands.
I'm just a little apprehensive, because the plates are held up by the tightness of the bolts...(although 2 bolts per side are better than 1)

I'd feel a little more confident if the plate was welded(like the rear lift stands) or if it rested on a horizontal bolt or some sort of 'step' system (so that height could be adjusted)
ah well, I guess it's just me...I've experienced various items/gadgets, where the tightening of bolts is supposed to hold 2 sliding plates solidly together, but they always seem to come loose.

so I'm just foreseeing the same happening with these stands...thanks again for the input, it helps in the decision making process.

edit: just had a thought/solution... I could put a couple of extra nuts and bolts to the unused slot part of the plate (above the 2 factory hex socket bolts)
so if the 2 factory hex bolts ever come loose, the plate won't be able to slide down much, because of the 'extra' bolts above will just get in the way....consider it MacGyver-ed! lol

guess I'll be ordering soon...cheers!

I wouldn't worry about the bolts, as long as you tighten them properly they will never come loose...Pitbull stuff is expensive but its all high quality stuff thats been proven

Non-spool stands are a pain in the *** to deal with on a flat surface, let alone an uneven one.
