Any good routes? Toronto to Niagara Falls.

I'm taking a friend of mine on a ride to Niagara Falls tomorrow. She's never been on a bike before, so I'm looking to make it an enjoyable ride.

Anybody have a good route? I always take the QEW but that can be rather boring. I'm hoping for something a little more interesting/scenic.

Thanks in advance.

It's not that exciting of a ride until Niagara on the Lake/ Niagara Falls Blvd to the falls. You can take Lakeshore Rd East through Oakville and Burlington, then over the lift bridge to Beach Blvd and Van Wagners Beach Rd until you get to Centennial Pkwy. Or just take the QEW to Centennial Pkwy. From there, I usually go South to Hwy 8, which becomes Hwy 81 to St. Catherines. Then North on Niagara Stone Road, just after the Garden Skyway, through Niagara on the Lake and Niagara Falls Blvd all the way to the falls. Watch your speed in 50 zones ;)

QEW = Boring and if she feels intimidated by heavy traffic and trucks it could be the last ride. I can make it to NF in 1 1/2 hours or 5 1/2 hour. The long trip is far better a ride.

I'm not prepared to spend an hour typing my long route. Also consider that she might not like it after 1/2 hour regardless of the route so a bailout plan isn't a bad idea. If it turns sour you can stop for a coffee and turn back. (Or dump her)

I would take Lakeshore out to Oakville and then Rebecca / New Street out to Burlington. Follow the lakeshore and lift bridge route, Van Wagners etc to centennial and up to Ridge Road. Work your way to either NF or NOTL.

Mix in a bit of highway to see how she likes it in case you need to put on some faster miles on the way back.

Port Credit you can cut up to Britannia and go west then down Cedar Springs cut over on 5 west and pick up Snake then down to Lakeshore.

Across the skyway and up Centennial to Ridge Road and take that as far as you can then drop down to 8 and you can take that through St. Catherines then to Niagara on the Lake.

See the Falls then head up the Niagara River to Fort Erie and home on the QEW.

As mentioned there are more complex routes but I don't even know some of the road names. Been riding in the area for 30 years and no idea what some of the roads are named.

Easier from Port Credit is perhaps Lakeshore all around under the Skyway and take Centennial up to Ridge Road.

Really depends on day and traffic.

There is a good but long day loop to Dover, Selkirk and around the end of the lake to the Falls and home.

Thanks, guys.

Did Ridge(awesome road, first time on it) - Hwy 8 - Lakeshore - Niagara Parkway. It was a great ride.

I'd definitely like to tag along if you guys do a long ride through that region. I'd like to ride some of the hidden gems in that area - there seems to be some great twisties.

Interested here as well. It's my favourite ride and it would be awesome getting to know the surrounding areas better.

Y'know what - it's okay but really take a couple of days and hit Pennsylvania twists galore.

There is not much more in the way of twists in this part of Ontario tho there is some scenery in the area along Lake Erie between Fort Erie and Dover.

Regional Road 69 (20 Mile Road), running from just east of Smithville to Victoria Road, can be entertaining. A few hills and twists running through farmland.

In PA and Eastern Ohio it's hard to find straight flat roads. Ontario has some nice stuff too but you have to work at piecing routes together. The absolutely worst part is getting out of the GTA Zombie Zone.
