Any good Cable TV packages?

My parents are thinking of getting a good Cable TV package. Are there any good deals out there? Things were simpler a year ago when us and our tenants, who lived in the basement, just hooked it up to the wall and got like 64 channels. Now to get the same channels we have to get a receiver that costs us like $5 a month, and get an additional one for another $10 fee (box renting and outlet fee.) This was through Rogers. Anybody know of special promotions or deals out there?

Ah but we are not with Rogers anymore. We don't have a subscription with anyone.

call and say you're thinking of joining and ask what deals you can get. Drag it out a bit and you'll get a deal.

I'm getting around 60+ channels (non digital i guess) simply by splitting my internet cable the tv card on my computer. if you have rogers internet you might be able to do the same if you have their internet service

People still pay for TV? Go over the air for local stuff in 1080p, Netflix for movies and shows. In my case, I have so little time to watch TV that I don't even bother with Netflix.

you forgetting about that CRTC ruling that offered Bell BILLIONS in profit? Where all the other independent DSL companies basically became bill collectors for Bell?!? You can kiss Netflix and torrents goodbye with what were unlimited plans now being limited to 25GB a month...ooh i can wipe my *** with that...anywho, end rant!

I was a big believer of not needing Cable up to now...

Well neither of my parents or tenants know how to use torrents and connect that to the T.V. Seeing that they are both older, they need something that is easily accessible such as cable tv.

Quite a few TV's sold these days offer Netflix support out of the box or you have many choices for STB's that give you the same ability without being any more difficult to operate than your Robbers Cable box.
With that being said, Red Liner is partially right. With the CRTC doing everything in their power to put even more money into the pockets of the Robellus Cartel, we will end up dreaming about the golden age of dialup internet. However, nobody needs cable TV and that's where he's wrong

Sigh, we budged and signed for a Vip package for a 24month contract with Rogers paying around $67 per month for two receivers. Do we have a 24 hour grace period where we can call and threaten to cancel?

Choose the TV you want: Rogers Trials New Flexible TV Package‬

Digital Starter Pack trial launches in London, Ontario‬‬

TORONTO, Nov. 1, 2011 /CNW/ - Rogers Communications Inc. announced today the launch of the first Digital Starter Pack, an innovative, new trial that gives Rogers cable customers the choice and flexibility they want.‬‬

"Customers have told us they want to build their own TV packages and only want to pay for the channels they watch," said John Boynton, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Rogers Communications Inc. "We have been looking at offering more customized solutions for some time that give customers more flexibility with all the benefits of reliable, digital cable, including Rogers on Demand. This trial gives us the chance to hear from our customers about the packages that work for them."‬‬

Available beginning November 8 as a trial in London, Ontario, the Rogers Digital Starter Pack delivers a standard set of 86 core TV channels, including government mandated channels, for a base price of $20.29/month including all monthly fees.* Customers can order the Digital Starter Pack and then choose any additional 15, 20 or 30 channels from more than 100 options, starting at $26.38/month including all monthly fees. ‬‬

The Digital Starter Pack trial will run until the end of March 2012. Recently, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has asked Canada's vertically integrated companies to submit a report examining flexible TV packaging by April 1, 2012. The Digital Starter Pack trial program is the first step in providing customers with more flexible choices.‬

"We think this Rogers-first is a very positive step forward for the industry and for consumers," said Boynton. "Delivering customized, affordable digital TV is just one of the ways we're continuing to innovate for customers. We look forward to working with our content providers to measure the results of this trial to ensure it works for everyone."‬

Customers in the London area can contact Rogers by phone or visit their local Rogers retail store to learn more about the Digital Starter Pack.‬

* Includes CRTC Local Programming Improvement Fund Fee of 1.5% of the recurring TV monthly service fee. Taxes extra.‬

+1 for Netflix. They have changed their compression tech recently so you get good TV but use less bandwidth so it's not too bad and there's new titles added all the time. Value can't be beaten, $7.99 a month. We're thinking of even cancelling the movie package for our cable but not quite ready to cancel the basic cable service yet.
