Any cable internet users having major connection issues lately?

I have cable internet through Acanac and have been having major connection issues for the past two weeks. It goes down for hours at a time with the 'send' light on the modem flashing.

I was all set to change providers until I took a look at the Techsavvy forum and discovered they have been having the same problems around the GTA -- something about DCPH issues.

What about you guys? What has been acting up and what hasn't?

I would consider switching to Bell or Rogers if it wasn't for their very low data usage quotas, and I would consider switching to DSL if I had a phone line -- without one the cost of decent speed DSL plus dry-loop gets pricey.

Any other options that I am missing?

I was seriously considering cutting out downloading almost entirely, switching my phone to mobilicity unlimited data plan and just tethering for my connection... but online reviews say that is very slow and not entirely reliable either.

I had a very few problems with Techsavvy past few weeks. Cant say I mind it much considering their speed and price. I am sure they will fix it. 16/Mbit at rush hour is too good to let go of.

Yea, using your phone's data plan isn't a very good choice for a primary connection. Latency is way too high and quality of service inconsistent.

I'm with Acanac now and have been thinking about the switch to cable for a while but I think I've decided to go with Teksavvy's 25/7 DSL instead.

I've been getting slow downs on my Teksavvy line. Recently my network router sent me an email stating that I've been attacked by several days of DoS attacks so I suspect someone is flooding their network. Happened before several months ago and eventually cleared out itself. Not much I could do except wait it out.

If it's a DHCP issue, it's either a problem with Rogers' DHCP server (it doesn't matter if it's Acanac or Teksavvy, it's Rogers' DHCP servers that hand out the IPs) or your provider has run out of IPs on the CMTS you're on and Rogers takes insanely long to provision new IPs. If it's the latter, it's a fairly common issue and one that is being addressed.

Teksavvy cable in Brampton here. No issues since getting hooked up five months ago.

Just went with Bhell Hell. They have been having major issues with their lines in Mississauga. It was soooooo bad they could not fix it Had to call in Microsoft. That`s bad when they have to call in Microsoft. Understand from a Tech that they have been having problems since last week.Fixed as from yesterday afternoon. Those lines are rented to all the other companies.Hence slow speeds, crashes etc. for everybody.

My rogers line ROCKS. I get 4MB/s downloads all the time. 150 gigs per month is a bit low tho. Also the phone can be used for main source of internet. My phone gets a ping of 40-55 usually and download speeds of up to 38mbps and uploads 15-20mbps.
