Any Bonneville riders with performance mods?

So I took a new Bonneville SE out for a spin yesterday and really liked it, coming off a z750 though it obviously felt a little underpowered. I'm on the verge of just going for it anyways, crazy fun to ride but I'd feel better knowing of any decent performance mods that won't kill its fuel economy. I think the one I rode had the TOR pipes, but I think thats it (no mention of a new air filer or anything either). Anyone do any touring on these bikes? Any input would be great (and pics as well if you got em!).

Hi. I ride a 2010 thruxton which is the cafe racer version of the bonneville and has a similar engine. I've got predator exhausts fitted, airbox and air injector bolt removed, fender eliminated (for weight reduction and looks) and some other cosmetic changes. I'm averaging about 180km to a tank. Not a huge difference in original gas mileage. Next steps for me are engine bore to a 904 (would love to do the 1087, but it's huge $$$). The mods I have now up the and torque by about 15% (approx). British customs and triumph performance USA have a heap of kit that can help. As for touring, nothing major yet.. Longest ride has been around 7hrs straight..which was actually pretty comfortable. Pm me if you want more details. Cheers

I've been thinking about a Bonnie for myself, except I prefer the T100. There is some great info on these sites;
http://www.triumphrat.net under the "Twins" section;
http://www.newbonnevilleriders.com, although you have to sign up to even read the posts.
There is also a few threads in http://www.advrider.com in the "Road warriors" section.
I've found these to be a constant source of fuel for the scheming and dreaming, or is the the drooling slobbering and lusting?. "Planning" sounds better.

i've a 2010 thrux10 with British Customs predators. They sound great and give the bike a nice guttural roar...but not obnoxious H-D loud. I also have a Biltwill Ace Handlebar that I installed and since removed, way too uncomfortable for anything other than zipping around town.

2010 Thruxton with arrow exhausts, but it came with them from the previous owner. Very warm, low note. You can feel it in your chest when the engine is hot. There is a sweet spot between 35-45k RPM.

I almost want to make up bad stuff about the bike just to discourage other people from buying it. In French, it would be called the "little death machine."

Amazing someone here gets 180km/tank though. I get closer to 110km/tank, but mostly in the city, barely getting out of 2nd downtown.

Er, um, don't buy one. It sucks, riiight guys??

These mileages to a tank are interesting.. the guy at the dealer told me I could be getting 250-300k on a tank. Seems impossible based on the numbers I'm seeing here, am I missing something or was he just really trying to sell me the bike?

About 220km per tank, maybe 240 if I really stroke it on my stock '11 Thrux.

I get about 200km before I hit reserve, if I'm gentle on the loud handle. I have an '05 Thruxton, and as stated above there are many options, from a few vendors, to empty your wallet.

Hey.....I ride a 09 Scrambler. I have 10,000kms on it and love the bike. It is fuel injected and while the same engine as the Thrux and Bonny.....The engine is actually fired 270 degrees which is different from the other Classics. This puts the torque in a whole lot different RPM range to improve its off road abilities. I have an Arrow pipe on it and it has been re-mapped but other than a new set of Tourances my mods are strictly comfort. I am shocked by the mileage numbers I am hearing. I do 260kms on a tank regularily and have plenty to spare when I fill up. I generally run 91 Octane but it loves the 94. My last trip up was 550 kms and I got an honest 51mpg. Be curious how other Scram owners are mileage wise. It does not have the Horsepower that the others have but makes all its torque by 4750 RPM which makes it a hoot to ride!By the way...the vertical riding position and wonderful torque make it a great city bike. I have ridden mine downtown alot and find the tracks and potholes no match for it. Just my humble opinion. This is it before the Metzlers.

Now 260km on a tank sounds about right! Looks like I'll still be saving for a Bonne haha, I had way too much fun riding that thing. Nice looking bikes by the way, I love Triumph.

Mcduf: How do you find the Arrow pipes compare to stock?

200Km approx till reserve on my 08 T100

Love the Arrow pipe. If you search youtube there are quite a few soundbites of this two into one. I have the baffles in and it has a real nostalgic sound to it. I have a fuel light that comes on when low but I still have 1.5 gallons in it when the light comes on. That usually happens around 180kms. I have pushed it to 280kms and feel she is drained probably near 300kms but I am not goin there! Triumph are making beautiful bikes. Best of luck in your search. Try the RAT forums as well as there are some great and helpful people on there.
