Another Safety Certificate?

If I'm buying another motorcycle from an owner, who has already has a safety certificate from 2 years ago, will I need to get another safety certificate for myself before to register the bike for a plate? If so, is it required or optional?

Thank you.

A safety certificate is only valid for 30 days IIRC. You'll need a new one.

To transfer ownership of the bike, it has to have the safety certificate from the last 30 days. It is the requirement to transfer ownership, unless the new owner is getting it put to unfit status.

Ok, thanks. Totally off topic but since I have you guys here, what is the best way to get the bike safety at this time?

If you have a shop you already deal with then call them and get the bike in, trailered, van etc. If you get it in now it will be done pretty quickly wait till the start of the season more of a chance of having to wait. If you don't know of a good shop post up what area your in and you will get recommendations form other members

Even if bike with FIT status?

Yup. HOWEVER, if it is still registered as fit at the time you register it as yours, you have the option of getting a trip permit IF you also already had the bike insured. That would allow you to ride the bike to a shop for a safety inspection instead of having it transported. Keep in mind of course that the trip permit is only good for 10 days.

this is related to this. I have a clean title, bike that is currently registered as "unfit" in my name. The bike has been fixed and is roadworthy, but i have decided to sell it. Can it be transferred to the new owner and changed to "fit" at the same time with just a current valid safety certificate? or will i need to make it "fit" in my name then transfer it.

Yes the new owner just needs the safety no need to put it on the road in your name.

Hello.. Everyone. I'm a new rider and new to the forum. I was wondering if anyone can suggest a good and a cheap mechanic to get the safety done. I'm in mississauga near 403/Erin Mills area. Any help /suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.
