Hello all,

I just did my M2 this spring and am picking up my new Yamaha FZ6R this week. I am of course scared s***less of the bike and other drivers - good thing I work at a hospital ;) Did my course at RTI in April. Live near College Park. Not sure what else to say! Looking forward to learning this new hobby.

welcome to the forum! I live downtown as well, just shoot me a PM if you'd like to go riding

Welcome! Wow, big bike to start with! I live opposite College Park, did my M2 at RTI in April and also work for a hospital. I say we should go for a ride :)

Welcome,

Interesting first bike with zero riding experience, just make sure to not let the bike get away from you or take control of you while your riding and you will be fine this way you won't have a need to make a trip to the hospital.

Yeah, ride your own ride, and at your own pace. also get gear that will actually wear (eg. Dont get just a full leather jacket for cooler rides)

Yeah, it is a bit on the bigger side engine-wise being a 600cc. I have long legs so physically it's fine - can easily sit on it, feet flat on the ground, and still slightly bent knees. I bought it under advisement from two friends with decades of riding experience that were worried I might get bored quickly of something smaller, or struggle on the highway if I need to quickly accelerate to avoid a situation. But they also like the supposed smooth power delivery of that model and think it might help me. We will see. My second choice was a Kawasaki Ninja 400. I definitely plan on taking it one day at a time and learning very slowly and carefully. Which weekend did you do your M2 course?

I definitely plan on starting very slowly. I have full gear (textile, but with lots of padding) and wouldn't ride without it. I honestly don't get it when I see people on bikes with jeans and t-shirts... I plan on keeping my hide!

Welcome. Enjoy your bike...

welcome and congrats on the FZ6R.
I'm seriously considering it as the bike I'll move up to next year.

Well I have no basis for comparison aside from RTI's bikes, but I took it out for the first time yesterday, and I LOVE it. It felt so well balanced and smooth. But, then again, newbie rider so no basis for comparison!

welcome and congrats on the FZ6R.
