Another Insurance Thread

Hey everyone, New to GTAM, Going for my M1 in a couple days and my MSF ASAP (next open is early may so unless someone cancels) I was wondering, I've read A lot of the other insurance threads I could find on here, but none seemed to have the answer (or that i could find), I've had my license since I was 16-g1. I'm going to be turning 25 may 12th, So 9 years i suppose ( full G license now of coarse) what would drop off rates be roughly when someone is 25 vs under 25. I haven't been insured for awhile on car due to fighting to get my engine in my truck by someone that has already been paid for it (going on 2 years now) but that's another story in its self, so eventually I want to learn on a 250cc/300cc ninja, cbr whatever.. i'm in the Peterborough area, Yes i know, not GTA lol but there are no motorcycle communities up here. I plan on getting my m2 and holding off for a year to do anything to give me that technical 1 year with my m2. Perfect driving record, no tickets, accidents, anything.

Should I still be expecting the 2-4k/ year insurance? given my age, record, lack of experience on a motorcycle, and the lower CC class i plan to get?

Thanks in advance, If this has already been answered and I simply missed it i'm sorry.

Just noticed the section specifically for Insurance, must of scrolled too fast :S
Sorry for mis-post mods.

Statefarm doesn't care if you are M1/M2/M, all same rate. As long as you've had your G for more than 5 years you're good to go. For your first year they will probably be cheapest on Ninja 300, but after the first year (possibly the 2nd year) you might be able to get a slightly better rate from one of the other companies.

Thanks for the reply Jamie :)

Yea, I had read a bunch of mixed reviews from everyone on here about state farm, Any rough estimate as to what I could potentially pay for a 250-300cc? Also been looking at Hyosung Comet 250cc, don't know if that is going to really change anything being as it is from korea. also read that the MSF course gets you Barely any form of a discount, is that true?

I am also interested in purchasing a ninja 300 and only have my m1( m2 in a couple of weeks )... State Farm gave a great rate of about 60/ per month. They base it on your g license and the cc of the bike. I am over 25 if that helps

Thanks for the reply Jamie :)

Junk! Don't buy it, stick with Ninja 300!

Only company that really gave a discount after a year of being licensed was Jevco, which no longer exists. Even as a new rider at 25 you'll likely pay less than 2000 a year...especially up in Peterborough.

I found when I moved form the GTA to Peterborough my rates went down $500. I was paying $2700 for a 600cc bike at the age of 18, so you'll be looking at less than that, possibly even below $2000. Best bet is to pick up the phone and call around a bunch of places.

State farm doesn't care if you take the safety course or not, so no, no discount for you!! lol.

I would try and find a used Ninja 250 (2008+) way way before considering the Hyosung Comet. If you're looking for sometime naked like the Comet, not sure what else is available like it.

Your insurance will be under $80/month (that's for under age 25, 300cc sport bike). You can even pay it monthly, on your credit card if you want!!! Love Statefarm :D

A crashed ninja 250 ;) lol

State farm is good. Rates there for me were half of what it was with Jevco. I started riding at 26 and had my full G for 8 years, no accidents or tickets. They wouldn't touch my car though. Apparently they only like high risk drivers.

Also depends on what else you insure with them. I just turned 20, only have my g2 as well as my m2, and I've been riding since last july. I just upgraded from my 125 to a 600 and my rate went from $56 a month to $102 full coverage. If my parents didnt insure everything through state farm I would be paying easily 4-5 grand a year for insurance.

I'm in Peterborough area as well, 23yrs old on the bike in my sig with one minor speeding ticket paying about 3600/yr. on a 300 you're going to be under 150 a month as that's approx what I was quoted at. This is all with statefarm.

Awesome, i was expecting in one hand and hoping in the other and if the general census is right, the hope hand wins lol. i was expecting easily 3000+ even on a 250 given No experience on a motorcycle on the pavement lol. Thanks everyone :)

And no, I was looking at the clothed Hyosung comet GT250R, ( Wasn't nuts on the fact that its Air cooled, And an acclaimed shi**ier ride then the ninja and cbr250r but i like the idea of the 250cc in the 600cc size bike) 6ft2 tried sitting on a ninja at peterborough cycle salvage just down the road and felt like my 03 yz250f with fancy plastics and headlights lol. (if the Image i tried to link didn't work of the hyosung i was looking into is... http://www.bikes4sale.in/wp/wp-cont...250r-comet-colours/hyosung-gt250r-comet-1.jpg )

Again Thanks to everyone, So many helpful people here, Definately glad i joined the community :)

I would look at td for insurance too. They have an online 'quote' that gives you a rough idea based on your information. When I called them to insure my bike it was actually cheaper than what the online quote said. Their rates were reasonable to me (granted I'm older than you but I did buy a 600 ss) so I'd say it's worth a shot.

Yea, i will definately call just to check but judging by most of the threads i've seen on here everyone seems to get a quote from td 2x the price of State farm.

Which brings me to another question, Where the heck are the state farm agencies here in ontario? are there any? how/where do i go about getting a quote?

Check statefarm.ca, call or visit a local office.

Statefarm is kinda cool that you don't really need a local office. You can get signed up via e-mail, they e-mail you pink slips, etc. Works sweet :)

Call Katherine (866) 930-1221, for the best deal tell her Crazy Jamie sent ya
