Android basic?

For you Android aficionados: I'm getting a Sony Xperia T to play around with, and know it's going to have a bunch of Sony bloatware preloaded on it. What I'd really like to do is wipe it and go to a standard ICS or even better JB setup like a Nexus.

Is this possible? How would I go about it? Non technical geek speak please.

You are asking about something fairly technical and dont' want any geek speak?

check xda-forums on how to root and flash your phone with google controled build or custom firmware

Ah the Bond Phone

What do you mean wipe and go with standard ICS - It already comes equipped with ICS, are you talking about like not dealing with Sony's implications on the ICS?

Yes, that would be ideal. Get rid of the Sony shtuff.

Typically a three step process:

1. Unlock the bootloader
2. Flash a custom recovery
3. Flash a custom "plain" ROM

Unfortunately, the first two processes vary from phone to phone, so you'll have to do some research (there's no blanket guide for all Android phones).

I would not say it's complicated though, just tedious.

Lolz - kind of. Googled around a little bit, obviously beyond my tech abilities.

Holding breath for: "I'll do it for you, I've done it a tonne of times."

- be a girl
- a hot one
- single
- put out

:D

as people have mentionned xperia T is a fairly recent phone, so i dont know if a lot of people on HERE would have experience with it.
try to look on YOUTUBE, might have better luck

LOL - yes, aware how GTAM works, but was hoping holiday spirit put everyone in a giving mood (no homo). Oh well, don't have the phone till end of week, was just poking around (get your mind out of the gutter..)

I don't think you are going to see as much bloatware as you think you will.

On my S2, I removed all samsung and carrier application shortcuts so I don't bother to use them. Other than the start up screen, which I could not be fussed to change, the phone appears vanilla.

At least that phone probably has some memory to it. My Bell Samsung Galaxy 551 work phone has a problem because it comes with all these Bell apps and other apps that I don't use because I don't have a dataplan but I do connect via wifi. All the apps get updated automatically to the point that the memory is full from the update files and then I can't receive text messages and what not. At least I managed to fix it now by uninstalling the updates and disabling automatic updates on the apps I don't use.
