My cell phone battery is dying so I called Fido to find out where I can get a replacement. I'm told at any Fido store and I reply "Sherway has a store. I'll see them."

I call the Sherway store (Kiosk) and get a recording that their mailbox is full try again later.

Sherway isn't too far away so I go anyway only to be told they don't sell batteries. It's suggested that I wander around the city trying different places and I might find one. In other words "Buzz off, your problem"

Ticked, I call Fido back and at least this time the rep tells me that Fido doesn't sell batteries and I am given a number for Sony Ericsson

I call Sony and play touchpad roulette only to be told I have the wrong division and here's a direct line.

I try the direct line and am told I have the wrong division again and I should be be talking to another number. He gives me the same number that referred me to him. When I point this out he says he will get me info and call me back in ten minutes. Never happened.

I go on line and Google the battery number and there's a bunch for sale at a tenth of the retail price. But there's more. I can get a new battery for a tenth the price of retail or pay twice as much for a reconditioned one. WHAT?

Why twice as much for a recon? Are they pre-exploded?

My head hurts

par for the course with the phone companies... I bought extra batteries off of Amazon instead of bothering with Bell

Ebay.

Best source for batteries at a fraction of the price.

I found some on Amazon but they had new ones listed for less than refurbished ones. Sounds weird and I was wondering why. 10% of list price so I don't have much to lose.

I think the theory is that you're not supposed to fix a cell phone with a dying battery. You're supposed to throw it out and replace it with a new phone.

It seems like a lot of people go through cell phones almost as fast as they go through toilet paper.

I'm still using a Nokia flip phone that has been dropped numerous times (the battery cover is taped in place ...), sprayed with machining coolant, splashed with hydraulic oil, and soaked in water then left to cook dry on the dashboard of my car for a couple of days. The outside display is scratched and chipped and the camera lens is taped over because I have to visit customers that prohibit photography (you can't buy a plain ordinary TELEPHONE without a camera any more - that's all I really want). Still works. Does what I need it to do. Battery is still good for a few days at a time.
