Alternate ways of cleaning a K&N pod Air filter without the kit

Its been 10,000 Km, time to clean the air filter. I was wondering if there is an alternative way of cleaning the air filter without buying that K&N kit.

10,000? They are rated for a lot more mileage than that. Cleaning them excessively is bad, they don't filter very well until they've accumulated a bit of dirt.

Kit is on sale at parts source this week. It will last the life of filter. 10000k the filter is just starting to work
