They already have them. Any who, cops can already run your plate while driving as a routine check, we do not have the same protections here as in the U.S.

Likely more crimes are prevented/more criminals caught this way, seems fine to me.
 
Criminals are dumb. ALPR just makes the cops job easier. While I don't tend to like big brother stuff ALPR seems OK. The bigger problem is what to do with the DUI driver on their third or fourth revolving door game.
 
Saw a blurb on it on the news this morning. Its upgrades/improvements on the old ALPR system.

Here is the problem.
In the US they found the police were selling the data to the "repo" industry in real time... so the technology got licensed to the "repo" industry (a bastion of integrity).
What happens when a divorce lawyer gets access to this data so they can prove your car was at the peeler club 4 nights a week.
The past has proven it's only a matter of time.

eventually a life time ban. First driving under suspension for major 45 days on the car, $5000 on driver plus longer suspension and possible jail. Then double, then six months 25 k fines 2 years plus jail 10 year ban then life time. OPP would confiscate on second if they wanted. I used to tow these. So many stupid drunks And aholes.
 
My concern is the level of surveillance this brings. I'm law abiding, so there us noting for me to be afraid of from law enforcement, but I'm not cool with big brother data being shared about where I go.
 
Park at the gym 5 blocks from the peeler bar and walk , problem solved .
Don’t want anyone to know you left your house , don’t carry a cell phone . This monitoring is everywhere, the airlines are using facial recognition as your boarding pass .
