I can't say that my post is going to be quite as cool as this one.

But,,, I've essentially done, or will be doing the same thing in the coming months.

I resigned from my current job last Friday, after 13 years as director of IT.

I'll be finishing up over the next couple of months and my last day will be Sept 28.

My exit compensation package included 24 months of salary, so I'm essentially going to be paid for another 2 years.

At this point,, I plan to do a bunch of traveling for the first 6-12 months, starting with a Top Gear-like trip in Vietnam in November from South to North, From there back home to collect my dog then off to New Zealand, I have a few friends there, Surfing and Riding will probably be the plan for some time, I'm hoping I can sort out some sort of race program there, but I think I'm going to actually get into STREET RIDING,, mainly to meet Hot Mom's so I can find a place to sleep.

I'm not EXACTLY sure where I'm going to end up, I have a professional skill set that's in demand in a number of Countries(NZ being one) so I'm just going to spend the next 18 months making puppies and accumulating foreign demerit points, that'll give me 6 months to find a job if I need one(I'm hoping to knock up some form of royalty and be paid to go away)

You resigned and got a compensation package? Please tell me how you managed that so I can be paid to travel the world for the next 2 years. ;)

Dear Cheesedick.

You suck and I don't like you anymore.

PS, can I sleep on your couch in NZ?

Warmest most sincerest regards.
Tim

Just beware.

Have a mate who lived in Vietnam and Thailand for a while. After a night on the sauce mistakes can be made. According to him.

If it's any help he has since made a living teaching English in a variety of wierd and dangerous countries. He's currently teaching in Egypt. He's as Manc as they come and as pale as a ghost yet he loves it out there.

I hope you have a great time exploring Vietnam. Was there in 2008 and will probably go back next year.
My wife has family in Ngoc Lac, Thanh Hoa . I am sure she could hook you up with some hot mamas while you are in town, who can make Bánh mì aka sammiches (and have 4 kids and are looking to get out of VN)! ;)
If you have and questions let me know.

NZ has plenty of sheep just sayin.

Also hope you don't disappear from this Forum, every post of yours was 10/10 worthy.

You might stay there and not come back

Wow, I'm jealous. I've been with the same company for 11 years ... I wish I could get a package and do something similar.

Amazing! Good luck.

Now all I have to do is get me some of this professional skill set people keep talking 'bout so I can do the same....

quit and see what happens.

That's what I did,, I didn't ask for the exit package, they offered it when I said I was planning to leave.

My plan was to go to work for myself but with the exit package, I have some time to work on that, I have enough of a client base to pay for my must have bills here without the exit package, now I can double dip for a while at least. I'm planning to keep my house etc here until I figure out exactly what I want to do and where I'm going to stay.

My biggest concern is my dog,, she's REALLY old and I don't know how she's going to take to traveling that kind of distance.

You should also do some research regarding your dog and NZ.

NZ being an island they may take a similar approach as the UK .Probably have a long quarantine time for animals, the UK used to be six months.

soccer moms!!!! and the browsing of motorcycle websites.

I've been the director of IT for a marketing company for 13 years, I was the architect of most of their client application infrastructure worldwide(clients in N and S america, china) We were fairly early adopters of cloud computing technology and are still pretty close to the cutting edge in this area.

My personal business is related to this area as well.

ie I do a whole lot of F-A

quit and see what happens.

Poor sap who tries: "I am regretfully informing you of my resignation"
employer: "K, cya, bye"
Poor sap's colleagues: "Can I have his parking spot?" "Who gets his laptop?"

;)
