Can one expect to see any difference in premiums once they get their M?
Having the full M license helps but a bunch of things but it depends WHEN you get it.

In the first 3 years of being licensed and insured it is just experience on the road (year 1, year 2, year 3). AFTER you have 3 full years of moto licensing behind you the M2 has done all it can rate-wise. After year 3 the full M starts to take over to get to a 4 star, 5 star, even 6 star rate. In other words someone with a M2 but 4 years moto licensed would still have a better rating than someone with a full M but only 2 years moto licensed. The best rates are at the 6 year mark with the full M (highest star rating). At that point the only remaining factors are your age, location, and how many years you have had continuous insurance (gaps no bigger than a month) for extra discounts.

When I informed my broker I received my M this past September, she said congratulations but no effect on my rate. But to expect a potential drop in June 2022 once I hit 4 years continuous coverage, which I started day 1 of getting my M2.

Had to postpone my M for a year so I had my M2 for 3 years before full M. I'm paying a bit less for my current FZ8 now than I was on my Ninja 300 back then, so I'm happy with how it's going lol.

The timelines are interesting, thanks for sharing the information, Ronn. And nice to finally see the R3, it looks great

Hi NFP,

I think it's really cool of you to lay out how rates usually go through someones riding career.

At the end there. You mentioned age, do you usually see another rate drop at 30 years old???Asking as a 29 year old turning 30 later this year haha.

Absolutely. Huge difference between 29 and 30, and should automatically apply at your renewal time. There are also age markers at 21, 25, 35, 40, 45, and 50 but age 30 is probably the biggest one. How many years of moto experience you have and the license class also helps.

Hi - are you still providing quotes? I sent an email couple of days ago, didn't get a reply... Should I phone instead?
Yes there is a whole team of moto specialists here that can put a quote together for you. Not sure what email you used but try this: moto@nfp.ca or call in to: 1-844-811-1118
The number is different on the older "flyers" though it still forwards.

Depends on who you get, when I was setting up a policy for the tuono got some lady named sandra, HUGEE pita to deal with, completely unhelpful, uncooperative, and downright provocative.

Ditto,

My one time experience wasn't great either, communication wise.

I contacted NFP because my insurance on two bikes has gone up an obscene amount. I ended up getting them insured for less than half what I was paying with Echelon. I dealt with Lauralee Oullet and found the service excellent.
