airbag jacket/vest

Hello all,

I was thinking of getting one of these and wanted to get feedback from anyone that has experience. Any recommendations, pro/con, price consideration, deals or sales?

Thanks
Dingo

Been using them for 5 years. Takes a bit of getting used to (heavier on one side due to co2 module). They come with standard ce rated armor, would recommend getting the ce back protector insert. A tether needs to be attached while riding which isn't noticeable unless you forget to detach it when getting off your bike (takes a really strong tug to activate the airbag which makes it difficult to do by mistake). Had a lowside 2 years ago. The jacket did a great job protecting my hip and side. More info here: www.hit-air.com

A couple of us just got them to try out at the track this year. We just got back from Jennings and i found i didnt even notice it over my suit.

It is a little cumbersome while your standing around, due to the weight of the C02 cartridge. One guy that crashed with the air bag system on and he said it saved him huge.

If your looking for some good prices, talk to Tony at Blue Streak. He can match the american price, minus HST. The only thing is order 1 or 2 extra Co2 cartridges.
It seems the US wont ship them over to Canada .. but so far i like it and hopefully never have to see it in action.

thanks all, i have been oscillating on the decision to buy one but think i will now.

appreciate the feedback

Although i found these could be useful safety tools i looked around and didnt feel like spending $500 on an airbag.

I ordered on of these last week for approx $150 CAD (shipping and taxes included).

I received it yesterday but due to weather havent had a chance to test it out (maybe in 1h i will go for a ride). I got a 2XL size and the vest fits comfortably over my existing jacket, i dont really even notice it other than around the collar area, its not too heavy and made of a thick textile mesh.

The buttons and zipper seem to be thick and decent quality, the CO2 cartridge is a weird size (38g) i didnt feel like buying extra's from the company at around $30 each but think i can find them online or at a hardware/marina.

if i get some spare CO2 i will play around with it more and test out the performance.

The one you got is much different than the one we bought. Ours looks more like a new life jacket than a vest.
And if you find the CO2 cartridges let me know .. so far i have found them to be expensive to replace.

i measured my CO2 with a caliper and its a standard 3/8 inch. im finding 38g CO2 cartridges on the internet that are much cheaper:
http://www.aerotechnic.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=&products_id=155

I dont know if my CO2 is now "armed" or not ... meaning if i take it out of the vest it might have been puntured and release all the air. If this is the case i dont want to remove it until i have something else to try with first.

My next step (once i have back up) will be to try and take out the orig CO2 (to be kept for later use). I will test run the vest a couple of times using replacement CO2 to test fill speed and inflation size ... hopefully i can do this over the next week or so (depending on getting the replacements).

Infernobuster im sure you can get generic CO2 for yours, what size are they do you know?

The size on them state 60cc ..

Not sure of your model, but you can remove the CO2 cartridge to see it has fired off or not. It is not under any pressure until it fires off ..

As for ordering them, you can order them from Tony at Blue Streak Racing. We ordered ours out of the US, and had them shipped to our hotel when we were there.

if you want to check out something similiar in a physical store I know bluestreak racing has them. I called them early last week and i think they were expecting an order in (call first just in case before you go). when i called on the phone they said they had free shipping to Toronto to save you the trip up to Embro, Ontario:

and GP bikes in Whitby has one also, different design.

I just bought mine off the internet shipped for free from singapore:

The manufacturer I was aware of: http://www.hit-air.com/

They offer vests and complete jackets of varying styles (complete with armour).

This is one of the American dealers mentioned on ADVrider: http://www.safermoto.com/

I think I would prefer a whole jacket to reduce accessory creep. Getting ready for work is ridiculous enough.
