AGV vs Icon

I currently have a Scorpion EXO-R410 (bought in a pinch) and a Bell RS-1 (my go to helmet)...yesterday, had a wicked headache and temple pain from my Bell, so went home and put on the Scorpion but it's windy as all get out...looking at either an AGV K3 SV, AGV K1 or Icon Airframe Pro...looking for something that is DOT and either Snell or ECE and under the 1,500 g mark (why can't I find weight from manufacturer's???)...watching some Revzilla reviews, but wondering if anyone can chime in here on which brand would be better...TIA :D

What made you shortlist those particular helmets?

Lidpicker can be useful. They don't have all of those models listed on their free data page, but it's a reasonable starting point to find something in the right ballpark for your head shape: Compare the shape and size of motorcycle helmets by brand and model — The Lid Picker

It sounds like the Bell RS1 is too narrow for you if it's giving you temple pain. The Airframe Pro appears to be a very narrow helmet too so it might suffer from the same problem. The K3 SV appears to be more neutral shaped, similar to the Scorpion R410.

Its what fits your mellon, I have 3 AGVs , love them , love all things Italian.
I'd really like Asai to fit me , not a hope , I have a shoie shaped head

I've had bad experiences with Icon gear, though it was ages ago, so not sure if they've improved. They went so far down the 'streetz-stuntah-dank-wooolie-bro' stying at the time that I completely wrote them off. Probably says more about me than the brand, to be fair...

For good value (i.e. not junk), I think HJC is pretty high on the list, along with Scorpion, KBC, and LS2. I think of AGV as more premium, but they do have some solid value. My experience with the more budget oriented end of helmets is the lining is usually less plush, so an imperfect fit is a bigger issue, as pressure points are harder to hide. If it's me, I'd want to try one on if possible (and for a good 20 minutes), but that's not as easy as it used to be.

One thing I've noticed about helmet reviews is that noise is very difficult to predict. Everyone sits with their head at a slightly different angle and in a slightly different airflow depending on the bike and windscreen. I've had helmets that were whisper quiet for me that others complained were deafening, and vise versa. Making sure the shield is tight and even seems to be one of the biggest factors...

You described my feelings towards Icon perfectly!
Never had a bad experience with HJC helmets, but I’ve been wearing Shoei now for the last 3 or 4 helmets and love them. The RF1200 is a nice combo of light and quiet for me.

I don't know why, but I was skeptical about ICON...anyways, I picked them because of graphics and sizing availability...I'm an XS based on measurement and not much out there in terms of stock...

GP has the AGV K1 Dreamtime which I like and Revco has that one as well as a few others (K3 SV as well)...Revco is full money back and no shipping charges even to return if they don't fit...

I'll look at the Lidpicker website tonight...never heard of it...

I have an AGV K6 that I bought because of its light weight and relief for my neck. Pleased with the fit, noise level too.

XS definitely adds complication for stock. I'm in the high volume sweet spot of L-XL, depending on the model, but the drawback for that is those helmets rarely go on sale while the XS and XXL models get blown out.

Don't forget to check out the Euro online sellers, as they almost all have lots of stock and better return policies than Canadian stores, especially if they have to order you something in. When I was looking for a track helmet, none of the local stores had what I was looking for in stock, and anything they ordered was final sale. Visor Shop, Champion Helmets, Chromeburner, Sportsbikeshop.co.uk, FC-moto, Motocard, Helmet City are all reputable.

Shipping will cost, and you'll have to pay shipping to return (along with likely having to get a refund on tax paid), so it's not perfect. But when looking for low volume items, the Canadian distribution system is brutal, and often quite expensive.

Another benefit of Euro shops is they sell the European models of some global brands, which are usually lighter due to the difference between ECE and Snell requirements.

My wife has the K6 as well. First helmet she tried on that she liked. She can't handle pressure on her temples as she is prone to getting migraines. No issues with the AGV.

For what it’s worth, I’ve owned 3 Icon helmets from 2016 onwards and have had nothing but great things to say. One Alliance GT and two Airframe Pro’s, one carbon shell and the other just polycarb’d. Anyways, no complaints especially because I too run the smallest shell size so I can always find great deals. Love their graphics and minimal branding. I’ve had great customer service dealing with them directly even though theyre located stateside, they had no issues providing a direct warranty replacement part to Toronto for me and they’re always super helpful answering my questions when I email them directly.
