Aftermarket Headers with Stock Exhaust?

As the title states, is it possible to use an aftermart header with a stock exhaust?

I love the look of my stock exhaust so I don't want to change it. But if I wanted the system to breathe a little more, is this an option or is it ridiculous unless you have an aftermarket can?

Are you talking about using an aftermarket header section with your stock muffler? The "exhaust system" refers to the entire assembly front to rear.

It may or may not be possible depending on how the two attach together. It's not a case that the aftermarket exhaust system manufacturers appear to design for. But if the part numbers of the muffler used with a slip-on and with a full exhaust are the same, and if a mid-pipe is involved and it's the same part number between the stock exhaust and the slip-on system, then it might be a mix-and-match situation.

Usually the way exhaust systems attach the various parts together is not rocket science and it's likely possible to custom-fabricate something to make this happen.

But, on most late model bikes, the stock exhaust system is quite well designed, and power increases are only possible with a very substantial increase in noise (and it's a whole lot easier to get the design wrong than to get it right, and end up with both more noise and LESS power).

Yes, sorry. To clarify would it makes sense to change the entire exhaust system except the muffler (headers and Mid pipe only). Would it increase any power?

I know some mufflers can increase hp up to 2hp. Full systems can increase up to 6hp. But if I a mix a match will I get any increase? I just really like my stock muffer. The only muffler i would consider is the Taylor made one.

Your bike the exhaust tip is welded to a catalytic box that is between the tip and the exhaust headers, that is what is going to restrict most of the flow...And pretty much all aftermarket headers are designed to remove that, so you would have to do some cutting and welding if you want to keep the stock exhaust tip with aftermarket headers

If you dont remove the catalytic, you will gain little to nothing from aftermarket headers

And if you remove the cat, and just use that little tip on aftermarket headers, your bike will be loud as ****! And IMO sound like crap too

Yes, its feesable.

All depends on how much time/money/effort you have on making stuff 'fit'
