Hello,

I recently was involved in a crash, at this point nobody was called "at fault" but I am dealing with insurance.
http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforum/showthread.php?161961-So-I-got-hit!-First-time-and-need-help

My question is in regards to the injuries I sustained, while treated as minor both insurance companies mine and the other driver are contacting me in regards to the events.

I was contacted by the other driver's insurance to get my description of the events, I was asked by them if they could have someone sent to meet with me and to have my statement sign, is this recommended? I spoke with my insurance company and they said that if I am not comfortable meeting with them or signing anything then I shouldn't and that I should refer them to my insurance company.

What is the best approach here?

Also I may be asking other questions about insurance later so please don't start spamming this post.
Thanks.

Personally I look at insurance companies like lawyers. I have mine and you have yours, I wouldn't talk to someone else's lawyer without mine being present.

So no, I wouldn't talk to the other company.

This x1000000!

The other party's insurance company shouldn't have called you at all. They should be dealing with your insurer, not you directly.

I wouldn't suggest meeting with the third party adjuster. Anything you say during that interview can and will be brought up later. Tell them you're not interested and not to call back.

got it!, I will pop more questions later, if I have any.
Thanks

I look at insurance coverage providers like attorneys. I have my own and you have yours, I wouldn't discuss to a person's attorney without my own being existing. So no, I wouldn't discuss to the other organization...

Way to re-word an already given statement?

Don't sign anything
I have heard tale of insurers getting injured parties to sign a "statement", when in reality, they sneak some fine print in there and manage to get the injured party to sign off on the claim.

Update:

Apparently my helmet claim has a depreciation value of 1% per month to a max of 10 months per year and from what the claims guy said that is really good compared to other companies... anyone?

Also my bike 2012 ninja 250 with 10437km on it, bought on April 2012 was valued @ 5400 after HST .. guess all that many km wasn't so good after all.

Hopefully it all gets paid quick ! Thanks for the help

Uuhmm... you'd be getting $5,400, right?

The MSRP is $4,999 - $200 discount + HST = $5,311.

So, how is getting $5,400 from the insurance a bad thing?

My company is 10% per year to a max of 50%. The helmet is considered equipment of the bike as it is mandatory that you wear it while riding the bike. Any other gear or clotihng that was damaged as a result of the accident can be covered without depreciation under your AB coverages as it is considered clothing or apparel and not required by law while riding.

Anything he was wearing yes.... Is paid at full pop. Helmets are trickey. Some insurers pay it as a portion of the auto claim and it's subject to depreciation like car seats. Other insurer's like Jevco pay in full for helmets.

I would suggest you make an AB claim, wait for an adjuster to be assigned. Complete the apps and claim your helmet on the OCF-6. You'll probabkly get a cheque for it in full.
