Anyone knows a plastic warehouse retailers in west end of GTA? So far the only one who will sell me ABS sheet smaller than 8 x 4" is in Scarborough. I don't want to drive across the whole GTA for 5 bucks worth of stock ...

Thanks

Lee Valley offers some smaller sizes of UHMW plastic, which I think is the generic name for Delrin

I beleive Acetate is the generic delrin. Delrin/acetate machines is usually harder and machines much better then UHMW. UHMW is 'self lubricating' and cheaper then delrin. Central Plastic in cambridge will sell small quanities.

delrin is an acetate resin, but not acetate. It bridges the barrier between metal and plastics, its a thermo plastic with excellent dimesional stability and makes great bushings and precision components. Some German guy got the nobel prise for that *****.

Call Laird plastics in Malton (speak to Dave Baker) (do not tell him who gave you the name)

or try P&A plastics in Hamilton they will mail small bits to your house (for a price)

If a vendor has stock but in bigger pc than you need ask if they will name an end user that may have offcuts or scraps. They may be reluctant to do this the PITA factor is big in this.

Whatcha building?

Actually just go to the McMaster-Carr website
and get everything you need sent to the house, they are the industrial small parts gurus, they have some of everything ever invented

Will check them out. Thanks.

Nothing interesting really, just few small bits for my bike. It's an older bike nobody makes anything for. I have an access to a machine shop, just need the material.

This is seriously good web site. No BS, just pure information, loved it. Something about how simple it is without any high tech flash bling .... refreshing. The concern, or should I say obstacle, will be a shipping. But thanks for the tip.

Their online invoices are really bare-bones straightforward too. They don't even show you what you'll pay for shipping, until your order's already on the way! But, the last time I had McMaster-Carr ship up here, it was USPS, reasonably priced, and quick (they'll probably ship from Cleveland).

I certainly wouldn't like that .... LOL At least they use USPS. But hopefully i can source it locally for the same or less money.

warehouse plastics

or warehoused plastics

use em all the time...can never get the name right
they stock EVERYTHING

also PATHER plastics is my #1 but not always stocking as much.

they do way cool stuff, like injection molding and such

You have to buy whole 8x4, there were not sure of Delrin ...

They typically have an 'off-cut' pile. A lot of scrap pieces to dig through. That's what I typically get when I go there. Mostly stuff in sheets, but I also remember bags of random sized material (thicker blocks of UHMW and acrylic)

I just go by what the lady I spoke to told me on the phone. Perhaps if I go there in person, they will sing a different tune. Which would be a good news.

They used to have a whse in Brampton. I used to buy stuff from them. But now, they only have one in Scarberia as far as I know.

So I finally found a time to go to http://www.plasticworld.ca/default.asp and they came through.

Very nice small shop. They have a lot of different off cuts. Picked up both a small sheet of black ABS in thickness I wanted and 1.5" dia Delrin bar.

Good people to deal with.
