About to hit 50k on my SV650!! immediate service needed?

Hey folks,

I'm about to hit 50,000km on my 2007 SV650, I bought with 44500 at the begining of the season. Is there anything that needs to be done or should be done to keep the bike running great? I would like to do as much as humanly possible my self first before I take it to a mechanic.

List of service I've done:

Oil change - 800km ago
Clutch rebuild - 800km ago
Waterpump gasket, orings
New tires
Cleaned injectors
Rear brake pads 400km ago

@ 40000ish KM by previous owner
Sprockets
Chain
Fluid flush
Valve check (I think)
Front break pads

It runs great except a small rattle/vibration coming from the inside of the aftermarket exhaust can and also seems to b running just a tad slughish in comparison to how it was running a couple days ago (acceleration isn't as abrupt)

Do you have an owners manual? If so check what the 50k service is, never had an sv so not sure what the intervals are.
 
Scheduled valve checks are at 24,000 km intervals. If the previous owner did it at 40k, he was really late for the 24k or really early for the 48k. I doubt he was early unless he was extremely, um, "meticulous". In any case, by 50k the bike should have had its second valve check. I've got 53k (all mine) on my '06 SVS. My valves were still in spec when I checked at 48k last summer, but the exhaust valves were getting close to the limit on the tight side.

Spark plugs are due every 24k too.

You should probably synchronize the throttle bodies. It's fairly simply with a v-twin. Mine were out a fair bit when I checked last summer. I made this as it was a fair bit cheaper than buying a manometer. The biggest pain was just getting the hose attached to the throttle bodies. I made small extension hoses that I simply capped and left attached to the bike so the next time will be much easier.

All three of the above could alleviate the "sluggishness" depending on their current state, but none of them would normally be a cause for sudden sluggishness (i.e. a matter of days). They typically go out over time.

What happens when the valves get too tight? Replace valves, the top end, or the whole engine? I've seriously never heard from someone that got that far.

It depends on how long they're left uncorrected. At the limit, or even a small bit too tight could likely only still need a shim replacement, but it really depends on the tolerances. If parts start hitting each other that are never supposed to come in contact, the price tag for the repairs is going to climb.

OP: Here's a link to the manual for the SV. svrider.com is a great resource. If it can be done to the SV, someone there has likely already done it.
 
worst thing that can happen is that when you overtighten, it wont seat right. and in the long run you can possibly burn out your valves
