My uncle was there as a mechanic. They had to de-waterproof the trucks after they came ashore, among other things. Once the front had moved inland a bit he would take a Famous James out for a ride and visit another uncle in th infantry. He had some funny stories and some sad ones. Fortunately they both made it back in one piece, although one spent some time in a burn unit.
