407 at McCowan GWS

I'm trying to puzzle out what kind of error buys you a single bike crash on the 407 where there's maaaaybe two corners on the whole highway that can't be taken at WFO. Can only think of passing too close to another vehicle that made an unexpected move, though that would still ultimately be very much the riders' fault. Hopefully the rider takes the opportunity to brush up on some basics...

Could be a range of things. Mechanical, closing panic, tank slapper, contact with road debris.

Speed amplifies risk for inexperienced riders.

Glad he's OK, hope he learned something.
GWS rider.

All possibilities. There but for the grace of God go I, I suppose.

Having been passed a few times on the QEW lately by the squidliest of squids (complete with obligatory Icon vest and little else, of course) who clearly have no idea what they're doing beyond twisting the throttle as far as it will go, I am perhaps unfairly assuming the worst. I'm not moralising about speeding. After all, before the stunting laws, I used to go back and forth between downtown Toronto and downtown Ottawa in under three hours with three gas stops (until I got tagged at 186 on Hwy 7 near Perth - that was an expensive lesson).

I'm just bothered by how half-assed the squidliness seems to be these days, that's all. We used to watch and rewatch Ghost Rider videos and puzzle out the risk probabilities, accounting most for situations where drivers would make sudden lane changes.

Anyway, I have a cloud to go yell at...

Every dangerous activity has the equivalent of a squid. An old teacher once said adrenaline has its share of junkies.
