So I got pulled over the other day on the 407. Looking back at it now I shouldn't have stopped but I did and it's too late now.

The cop must've been trying to meet his quota cuz he nailed me with 4 tickets at once. I wasn't even speeding or doing anything wrong. He just came after me because I'm on a sportsbike.
- improprely mounted plate
-evading toll system on the 407 (cuz of improperly mounted plate)
-improper tire (cuz the edges were shredded)
-failing to surrender ownership

Each ticket is $110. I need some advice. What can I do to have them dropped?

You should post up a picture of your plate and tire so what we can see what the cop was thinking for the first three. It is sometimes possible to get the last one dropped by the prosecutor if you can show you had a valid ownership at the time.

Others have had the ownership ticket dropped by showing up with it at the trial.

I'm guessing your plate is tucked up under the tail maybe? bring in a 407 bill showing you've ridden on it in the past and it billed you for those times and maybe you can get the evading tolls ticket dropped.

Unless of course, you did have it so the 407 cameras couldn't pick it up and you were avoiding tolls...then you're pretty much f***ed.

no insurance tag , no ownership one speeding ticket, all cancelled because i showed up to court with all my paperwork...the prosecutor was so sick of people showing up with nothing I was treated (just on the speeding ticket) the other she tossed because i had proof. Nice lady (at least to me) ....now the cab driver who kept saying " i didn't speed" over and over again even to the judge wasn't as lucky

"I NO SPEED"

"okay do you have any proof?"

"Yes I NO SPEED"

"you need a reason if I am going to offer you a reduction"

"ok I NO SPEED"

"Next"

LOL

They patrol 407, specifically looking for people who have their plate mounted in such a way as to avoid tolls. That is why you were stopped, initially. The officer could have confiscated your plate, and any device that was "used to obscure it", on the spot.

As stated presenting a 407 bill that shows your plate number, especially for the time in which you were actually using the toll highway, would be a valid defence. If you cannot obtain such evidence, then you're pretty much done on that charge.

If you can show that your plate is visible and completely unobstructed, when viewed from the rear arc of the bike, then you have a hope on the improper mounting charge.

If your tire wasn't too badly worn, otherwise, and had sufficient tread depth, then you may be able to make a case that it was safe for road use. Likewise, you may be able to have the "failure to surrender ownership" charge dropped, if you demonstrate that you do, in fact possess the ownership to The Crown. It is, however, a valid charge on its face if you did not present it to the officer, at the time of your stop.

This is a prime example of a "do you want fries with that" stop. All of the charges may well be valid. It's not a matter of "quota", but rather a demonstration of why stock plate mounting locations should be left, as is.

Valid charges or not....I kinda think the officer went overboard....None of the charges relate to dangerous or aggressive riding.

Coulda learned your lesson from one charge, improperly mounted plate, its common on motorcycles (not necessarily for the purpose of avoiding tolls)

Can't speak to the ownership charge, shoulda had it with you.

I really don't understand why some people don't have all the documentation for their vehicles with them (unless they are literally in the middle of an ownership transfer, but even then, that takes an hour at MTO).
It's not rocket science. It's 2 pieces of paper; a green one and a red/pink one.
And on top of that, your driver's license.

@OP: I don't have any more suggestions other than what's already been explained in previous posts. If you can do it all, great for ya.
I wish you the best of luck.
Pics of plate and tire(s) would be appreciated just so we can see what's so "improper" about your bike according to the officer. :)

On a personal level, I kind of agree with you. But unfortunately, the SCC has held that there is no need for a behaviour to cause harm before it can be made illegal ( see the marajuana cases ) and enforced.

Interestingly enough the same reasoning was used by the same appeal lawyer ( a good friend of mine ) to strike down the prostitution laws, but thats just for flavour.

I think that cab driver knew exactly what he was doing....

Real bummer for the OP :( That's one of the reasons I keep my plate mounted in the stock location and all of my lights/signals stock. Same goes for the can.. That way, I attract less attention from the forces of law and order and that would have saved you all of the tickets, which leaves us with the doc ticket. Carrying all your documents avoids those. I get charged with speeding on average once a year (been lucky and pushing 2 years now), so I do my best to avoid those "value-added" b.s. tickets. Another biggie: full stop at STOP signs, at least one foot touches the pavement. Same goes when making a right turn on red. Saved me from getting 5-6 tickets and counting.

That's cause you and your bike are all camo'd out and no one can see you. :lmao:

Why is this relevant? Cops are supposed to uphold all of the law, not just some and certainly not only those relating to dangerous/aggressive behaviour.

It's not overly relevent...I feel as the OP does though, perhaps he was targetted.

@ Jeero: I agree with you soemwhat, I always carry my paperwork, but in reality, as long as you have some form of ID, anything motor vehicle related can be verified by the officers computer. Even insurance stuff.

Most of the time, I hear people getting a 24 hours to provide it

I realize that, but not having all your paperwork and license in the event that you get pulled over, you get ticketed, and even though you can easily get them thrown out, it consumes your time to go to court.
People should save themselves the hassle and just have their **** together. :D

The nail that sticks out gets hammered!

Ironically, I haven't been pulled over since my bike got camo'd out. I guess they know that only one bike in the GTA has that color scheme, so there's no chance in hell I'll be runnin'

That's a tough one....I'm the worst for it.

I was got caught failing to stop for 3 stop signs in my neighbourhood....Officer reduced all the charges to a bylaw offence of traveling wrong way on a one way street or something like that.

Best part is, he didn't even file the ticket on his end...The provincial offences office sent me a cheque back for the cost of the ticket.

Nice cop that day.

I have got a 407 bill before but its one of those estimated trips cuz it only got me at 1 gate, and that's only cuz I was going sideways on the ramp. lol

So should I go to trial or plead guilty with an explanation?

Im hoping that if I show pics of my plate mounted all the way back and a new tire on my bike that they'll drop the charges.

The reason for the ownership ticket is that I had a photocopy of only the front and not the back. The cop was a dick and gave me the ticket.

Don't go straight to trial, request for a First Attendance meeting with the crown attorney (prosecutor) and ask him what your options are? They will most likely tell you the following:

Prove that you were billed on the offense date/time, and take pictures of how the plate was mounted.

Get new tires, take pictures and bring a receipt of the purchase, also bring your ownership which was valid on the offense date.

I foresee all four charges being dropped if you do all of the above.
