Hi All,

I just wanted to get people's opinion of what my best option is.
I got my G1 in march 2011,M1 in august 2011, M2 in october 2011 and G2 in june 2012, so state farm will not insure my bike, i bought a suzuki gsx-600r it's an 08.

TD is quoting 3511 for 10 months till Feb 2014, just wanted to know if someone knew any other insurers that i should try and talk, kindly let me know appreciate your help.

Thanks.

That's probably the best your gonna do. A gixxer 600 at that young... Lube up lol

Am 26, recently moved to Canada . Rode a royal enfield 500 back home for almost 6 years.

Oh now I feel bad lol sorry.

I think Allstate is 30 yrs old but you could look into that. Intact is another to look at, riders plus

Oh and don't waste time getting quotes online. Make sure you call the companies you will get more accurate quotes.

No worries man, should have mentioned that in the earlier post probably. I called around a couple of places, one place said 5k+ lol, till now TD is the best i found. Also i travel on the TTC and dont have my own place so cant get any bundle options(home+car insurance) going too.
Will try giving allstate a call in the morning.

Time to start making a history here. Welcome to Canada, lol.
Just keep your record clean, and just hang in there.

I completely realize how important that is, i will try to be on my best behaviour.

There was no way to transfer your motorcycle license from back home?

Well the MTO recognized my driving experience and i didnt have any wait times for getting the G2 or G or M2 or M. It's just that since i don't drive and all i didnt really feel the need but i know the error of my ways and will get my G soon and also my M as well.
Am not sure if there is a way to get the insurance companies recognize the driving experience from back home, if someone can provide some insight around that, that would be great.

I'm not the authority on insurance, but I don't believe they will recognize any insurance history from abroad.

Motorcycle insurance in Ontario is particularly high. You bought a bike that is classified as a "super sports" and falls into the highest insurance category (aside from the cc's of the engine). 3.5k seems quite high. Check around on the telephone a bit more. Good luck

Your lack of previous insurance along with such a short driving history topped with a gsxr 600 will result in some astronomical rates. There is nothing you can really do, other than perhaps get a different bike which isn't classified as a supersport. Sv650s for example should be half that rate...

Good luck

Didn't see your age, but that's actually a pretty damn good quote. People look at around that much on a 250 for their first year.

**** just read. It's a shame ins experience doesn't follow over, but expect retarded rates in Ontario.

Cheers :)

Contrary to popular belief, insurance history means absolutely nothing: http://www.fsco.gov.on.ca/en/auto/autobulletins/archives/Pages/a-06_97.aspx

Insurance companies that ask this (and about breaks in insurance) to use in rating, are actually breaking the law.

EDIT: By insurance history I mean length of insurance, not accidents, of course those count against you.

The popular belief is that insurance history means nothing. :D nothing contrary about it!

Sorry, what I meant was, even if you have insurance history here, it should by law mean nothing with regards to your rating. Only length of licensure matters.

Interesting, I learned something today. Certainly insurers still ask for this information - what exactly are they doing with it, then?

They use it for being scumbags, of course! Their loophole is giving a discount (while not changing your rating, which is different from your premium, or 'rate' as people often call it) for years of loyalty to an insurance company. The discount can't explicitly be 'years of insurance' because that would be in clear violation of the spirit of the law, but they've so far managed to do it by being very loose with what 'loyalty to an insurance company' means. So if you've got 3 years of insurance, and 3 different companies, as long as it was continuous, they'd probably give you a discount for 3 years of insurance.

I guess complaining about it is a bit like complaining about the difference in premiums between younger men and women; they wouldn't lower the premiums of those paying more, they'd just raise the premiums of those with the discounts. But the fact that they do it masks a real problem in Ontario, which has some of the highest insurance premiums in North America, and I'm sure ranks on the world leaderboards somewhere. People who've been riding/driving for years, and have deep discounts for continuous insurance aren't about to make a fuss about their discounts, are they?

Sell the Gsxr and get something that isn't on the sportbike black-list until you qualify for statefarm.

I am 27, had my g for 8 years but m1 last sept and m2 in nov. Pay 145 a month on my 01 sv650 and 121 a month on my 2012 gsxr 600 (both statefarm) so maybe try there.
