24 Years Old, Clean G record, M2 this month, weird quotes

I've been shopping around for insurance for a little bit, I wasn't originally going to buy a bike but I was using the Ninja 250 as a benchmark for what the prices would be.

I have decided, instead, to purchase a GS500F.

Right now I'm playing around with TDs and Primmum's online quote stuff but they're all giving me stupid high numbers compared to before. They all however between 3200 (no coverage) to 3800 (full coverage). I haven't called Cooperators (which told my father it would be 2300 on a 250 Ninja, and I'm currently insured with them for an occasional driver w/ the family vehicle), or Duffy yet for a new quote. Duffy also gave me a 2500 quote last time I called them for a 250 ninja.

Does this huge price hike sound normal?

All normal. If you have been licensed from 5 years from your G1, call State Farm. They rate you depending on the displacement of the bike, not the experience.

You stated you are getting a GS500F but you are getting quotes for a 250? Why didn't you just ask them to quote you on several vehicle to see which was affordable?

As I said, I wasn't originally going to buy a motorcycle until next year (because I know insurance rates drop down like crazy after first year). I originally planned to get a 250 Ninja. After just dicking around and window shopping on kijiji, I found this modded GS500F that I instantly fell in love with. However, I had NO idea that the difference between a 500CC vs a 250CC was going to be more than 1,000 in insurance! So far, it feels like if I wanna play, I gotta have a **** ton of cash.

EDIT: I just noticed what you said about Statefarm, I will spam them tomorrow! =D

EDITEDIT: I guess worse comes to worse is I buy the bike, leave it in my garage stare at it =(

I bought a ninja 500 when i was 25, clean record, if i put my house, cars, etc with them it was $720/year comp, no coll., they were competitive with the house and the cars, just so you have a reference.

Look at TD. I pretty well have same stats as you. 24 - 1 minor ticket (expired plate) and an fz6r. Lowest was TD at about 1600 for the year

You are my saviour. TD quoted me for 2200 this year until February, which is better than me paying 3600 for a whole year because next June my insurance drops down extremely low. I can just spend Feb to June not riding.

But I just rode to my gf's house and she called me a idiot for buying a bike =(

Did you already purchase your insurance policy from TD effective today?

Good choice on your first bike :)

Yeah, I also got the bike today. I also dropped it after riding for 3 hours while parking on my drive way. Apparently this is very common, I feel less stupid....but still pretty stupid =(

EDIT: By drop I mean very gently lay down because I lost balance lol Still ended up w/a small scratch !! :@

This is the reason why buying a brand-new bike as your first bike is not the most intelligent thing to do. Just be glad that your bike (presumably) wasn't spotless to begin with :)
