Anyone know of any issues with it, besides the lack of a dealer network?

Someone hinted that MV's may be prone to electrical issues, but I haven't heard anything specific.

It's a sweet looking bike.

Beautiful machines, all of them. From what I've heard they're not worse nor better than the other Italian brand. but with anything high end, low volume with lots of unique tech I would assume there to be issues compared to something mass produced and proven.

I would be more worried about the dealer network, Only two in Ontario. More for parts availability than anything else, that's a lot of coin to be sitting and waiting for unique parts to arrive to fix if something goes wrong.

Yeah, I went in and sat on it. It looks nice. Better than the pictures.
Wouldn't let me test ride it. I think they used to be an MV dealer at one time, so it might be a leftover.
Guy's been calling me every other day. So I told him I'd let him know by the end of the month.
If you want it, I can give you his phone or email.
He quoted me $19,893 all in, with tax, licensing and the hard panniers which they'd have to obtain, but didn't have a definite timeline.
Not sure what the warranty is like.

It does have cruise control.
Wife is most of the reason I didn't buy it when I first sat on it.
Thurs & Fri look good for riding.

edit: The problem now is, that even the Multistrada looks plain in comparison.

But you can at least test ride the Multi. If you buy the MV and don't like it for whatever reason the depreciation to sell it will be massive.
Having owned the Muliti 1200S and knowing how great that and the 1260S are I'd be saying to at least test ride a new-leftover or low-mile Multistrada 1260 if you haven't already.
I haven't ridden the MV, and it may be great or meh, but thinking logically it's a bike you'll be stuck with if you don't like it or it ends up being unreliable because to try to resell it the price will be closer to $10k sadly.

I agree. I would have trouble paying 20K for a five year old bike even if it is NOS. Hell, it may need new tires before you ride it. If you want to do it, I would make the sale conditional on a test ride. They have their money, you take the bike but you have 24 hours to bring it back with less than 500 km added. If you give it back, they keep $500. Seems like a reasonable deal for all and keeps you from taking a bath if it's not what you expected.

If I were still in Toronto and using it around that area, it would be a no-brainer.

The new ones are $33,250, before tax & license, without the OEM panniers, so this one's "much less that half price".

The problem is that they are so rare here, that there isn't a consistent depreciation for them.

Selling a used bike privately for close to 20K is a rough go even if it was 30K+ to start. Ducati people run into it all the time. Even if the bike may be "worth" that much, a lot of people still finance toys and being able to walk in to a dealer and walkout with a bike and a monthly payment makes their lives easier. They could pull a bank loan or use LOC to buy the private bike but many people buying bikes on credit don't think that way.

I feel like depreciation shouldnt matter as much as buying the right bike for your usage and having a good time

This is so true. I've never sold a bike for over $20K private sale. Only ever traded it in or got hosed by selling it to a dealer. I think if someone's dropping over 20 large for a used motorcycle, they want some kind of mechanical and financial assurance and indemnity that only a dealership can provide. Even the logistics of funds transfer get messy: certified cheques can be forged, eTransfer maxes out at 3-4K a day, $20+K in bills...? Nope.

I'm trying to recall what the most I've ever sold a motorcycle for privately. I think $10K was the max.

Doesn't help that all the bikes I've sold were high mileage...

MSRP maybe, but seeing as this one's 5yrs old on the sales floor (realistically 6yrs old by the time it'll get ridden) they're not selling them for MSRP (or at all it seems).
Duc's sell. MV's.......well sometimes.
I bought my 2yr old Multi from GP, they gave me a fantastic price, I rode it for 2.5yrs, put 30,000km on it, sold it for $500 less than I paid for it not including the tax. Zero mechanical issues over that time.
Greyghost has a good idea for the purchase although I'm not sure if the dealer would do it. I just see it as a potentially costly purchase gamble that's all.

So interesting to see how price affects the mindset, people prefer to buy cheaper bikes cash as opposed to really expensive ones.

Some models also dont sell well if they're priced high and too close to the flagship model, because people figure for a couple extra G's they can get the big daddy so why settle? (case of the multi 950 vs 1200 for example)

My issue is that I need a working bike, but can't have two in the garage at this time.

If I pick up a $2500 bike, it's not what I really want, and I get soaked for 10%, that's not too bad, but if the bike is ~$17,500 OTD, then it hurts.

It'll be a good deal for somebody, but not me. Would it go in the reasonably priced, or the stupidly overpriced?

If anybody is interested, I can give you the saleman's name & email.
