2015 Insurance Anectdotes of sadness

Good Day all,

a couple years I've lurked as a non-member and read the couple certas/dejardins StateFarm new risk scheme threads but now had to just ask...

Who has seen a raise and by how much?

The low down on me. Got my A endorsement in NB went with SF when I got my Monster 821 Stripe, was paying $1800 at 24yo, come back to Ottawa and they want $3100 at 25yo, keeping in mind that they wouldn't take my NB license for full M since it was under 2yrs old so got an M2. The agent is shocked and thinks its a glitch so calls the underwriter. Meanwhile I do some online quotes get around $2800 through Rider's plus and an independant (both using Intact), TD online quotes me $7500 (get bent).

I email the SF agent asking for what my rate would be with a 2012 Duc 848 just in case I wanted to trade in next year...she says oh probably around the same since its similarly sized bike...then I hear her heart stop for a second, $7800 for a 9-10k motorcycle.

I always knew we got bent over here but come on...

Anyways, rant aside, what are you guys finding now?

I find it so disheartening that a couple years ago people were insuring newish R1s for 2grand or less and now they wan't 3grand for my monster and are essentially killing SS in Ontario. Per capita our claims can't be "that" much higher than major cities out west like in Alberta etc...

EDIT: To add insult to injury, just got the new license in the mail (had my temporary up till now) and they only put the G on it...its like this province just hates Motorcycles... Into Serviceless Ontario on monday I s'pose.

Moved from BC back to Ontario.

Price for the Truck and the Bike went up around 2 1/2 times and I ended up with about 1/2 the coverage :(

And normally government can't do anything cheaper, and BC have a bunch of 120 Km/H posted limits now.

Isn't that just the kicker. Coming from NB where its 110 Km/H most highways, I know the pain. For the record I stayed with SF for another yr to avoid the hassle of driver abstracts etc... will cost me 300extra but I was so sick and tired of it and my safety was about to expire. Hopefully the dust will all settle by next fall and I'll make the move to a new company and with the M.

Hey Rogo,

Moving from the Maritimes to Onterrible hilites the excessive cost of insurance in this Province. To make matters worse, many of the riders on the Ottawa forum are getting their 2016 renewals and are reporting significant (25-50%) increases in their premiums. Mine comes in mid-January and I'm curious to see if I'll be screwed over.

You may be too young but check out TD Melloch. They have great rates if you are a member of any of their affinity groups (University grads, Business associations, etc).

Good luck.

Thanks Rick, TD MM was not competitive despite me being a University Grad, I found that Intact was the best through them or Rider's Plus at 2800, but having recently come back and not with NB driver's abstract in hand I stayed with SF for this next season. But late next season and with the full M I am abandoning ship. I looked into TD MM for an used 848 and they wanted around 7grand, SF wanted 8.

I didn't understand.
