2014 Bike shows?

Greetings from Sudbury,
I know it's early, but a question to the group: I see there is a bike show Feb 21st weekend at the Energy Direct Centre, then there's the International Bike show in March.

I remember a few years ago there was one that tended to specialize in cruisers and cruiser leathers. Can anyone point me in the sport bike "show" direction.?

Jan 3-5 is the big show at the international centre. That's the one you want for Sportbikes.

The February show @ Direct Energy Center is the Manufacturer Show. It was in December @ Toronto Convention Center in recent years.

The January show @ Internation Center is the dealer/retailer show. The March show is largely the same thing regurgitated.

Op you're coming from Sudbury for these shows? Don't bother IMO.

I go but I'm like 10 mins from the January show

I've just finished my first half-season riding (started late) and have never been to any of these shows. Is it worth buy gear at these shows? Are accessories and other things cheaper?

You will find deals if you are looking for them and know what the items sell for at the store during regular season. The convenience of having multiple vendors in one spot at one time is handy. Don't think I would travel from Sudbury like the OP is considering though. Some of the smaller dealers are willing to negotiate their prices too. It isn't free for them to show so they want to cover their costs and make some money too.

Wow the piss off contest about the Motorcycle shows started early this year

Some people think is a waste of time
Some people say meh, its ok for something to do
Some people freaking love it and can't wait
Some people make it a friend activity and have a good time
Some people are miserable and will complaint but go back every year so they can come here and complain again

Go and decide on your own - Support the industry

..or not

No, and usually not (but very rarely, sometimes yes - my Shoei X-11 Kagayama was a show discount)

Sudbury? I really, really want to tell you not to bother ... maybe there's still some magic in it for someone who's never been to it before, in which case you want the February one.

I went the other year with a few buddies and almost got the ReeVu helmet. The guy selling said I've been into his store and wouldn't do anything for the price. I said thanks buddy, but I just saw your gear for the first time and getting into riding this year, seems like you might have the wrong guy. Vendor was a dick and I went my own way.

You can find great deals on certain items. Last day near closing is usually the best time at any convention. Less crap to pack so if possible I'd try for make it on the last day. No guarantee that your size/colour will be available since it will be last day.

But if you make the trip hope you have a blast! Oh and people in Toronto tend to drive a tad bit on the crazy side of life, just and FYI...

Thanks for all the info. Seeing as I've never been before, I'm definitely planning on going. Just wondering if I should bother with saving and spending my money at the show instead of before/after. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I can tell you one thing to expect to see is deals on the RF-1100, as it is being replaced by the new hotness RF-1200. It helps if you are prepared to buy. Also, the best deals get cleaned out quick, so I wouldn't show up on Sunday hoping for much.

Another thing that is possibly nice about the show is talking to manufacturer reps. They actually know things about the bikes they are promoting, and can usually answer technical questions about their bikes. Salespeople, bless their hearts, generally know only a tiny fraction of that stuff.

The Jan 3 - 5 is the show for all genres. Everything from sport-bikes to cruisers, leather fashion show, custom & vintage showcase. Bigger than the regurgitated one in March. Lots of retail goodies around. The Feb show (manufactures showcase) really doesn't have as many goodies, but does have the entire line ups of the new product on display. Not as big as years-gone-by as the industry has taken a hit.

I myself like to get to "The Big One" every couple of years. If nothing else, its great just to do something different when it's around.

It's a good place to go to be able to try on a wide variety of gear and there's usually deals to be found if your not set on having the most current models or designs.

Its nice having many vendors to barter with. Over the years I've got a $1200 suit for $700. Some one put it on the wrong rack. An $800 helmet for $500 from gp bikes. And a 2010 gsxr 600 for $8200 new.

I picked up a case of semi-synthetic and 2 front hybrid + 1 rear pitbull stands for under 500 after tax so it was worth it for me last year.
