LONDON, Ont. – A charity motorcycle ride to raise funds for a London, Ont., cancer program has been marred by a serious crash involving two of its riders.

Both were rushed to hospital with serious injuries Sunday – one by air ambulance – after their motorcycle struck a canoe which had fallen off the top of another vehicle (on Townsend Line) in the Strathroy area.

Police say the canoe was not properly fastened.

There’s no immediate word on whether any charges will be laid against the driver of the vehicle with the canoe, who remained at the scene.

The bike was one of about 250 taking part in London’s “Ride for Dad” charity drive on Sunday.

GWS...it's sad that some people are just so frikkin lazy, and their ignorant actions have such tremendous impacts on the lives of others...

I've done this ride several times in many cities. GWS and speedy recovery to the 2 riders.

GWS Riders.

Many years ago, I was riding behind a guy in the left lane of the 400. I noticed the canoe on his roof rack was a little wobbly, so I passed on his right, as he was hogging the passing lane. Just as I was beside the guy, I saw the canoe fly off his roof right onto the road!

Another moment and I wouldn't be here right now.
