A 20-year-old woman was killed in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash in Beaverton on Sunday night.

The victim was the passenger on the back of the motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 25-year-old man, was taken to a Toronto hospital where he remains with non-life threatening injuries.

Durham police say the driver hit a guard rail on Simcoe Street near Harbour Park Crescent around 7:15 p.m.

He was travelling at a high rate of speed, police say. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. At her family’s request, her name will not be released.

Police are investigating.

Durham regional police have arrested and charged a Wasaga Beach man after a fatal motorcycle crash in Beaverton last month.

Police believe the accused hit a guard rail on Simcoe Street near Harbour Park Crescent around 7:15 p.m. on May 27. He was travelling at a high rate of speed, police say.

His passenger, a 20-year-woman, was killed in the single-vehicle crash. At her family’s request, her name will not be released.

Brandon Carreira, 25, was arrested Thursday and remains in custody. He is charged with impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death.
