A 25-year-old man is dead after a motorcycle and van collided in St. Catharines late Monday night.

The head-on crash occurred on St. Paul Street, near Highway 406, at about 10:30 p.m.

Niagara Regional Police said the St. Catharines man was westbound on his 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle when he crossed over the Burgoyne Bridge and approached Bellevue Terrance, where he failed to negotiate a “moderate” right-hand curve in the road.

The motorcycle crossed the centre line, entered the lane of oncoming traffic and collided with the front of a 2005 Kia van, police said.

The motorcyclist was thrown off his bike and pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the driver of the van, a 47-year-old St. Catharines man, was not injured but was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Officers continue to investigate the crash. Witnesses are asked to call police at 905- 688-4111 ext. 5500.

RiP rider. It's not a bad section of road, so who know's what really went wrong.

I've had it happen where I caught a bug in the eye, even with a full face helmet. Blinded me for a few good seconds. Who knows:dontknow:. Too young.

RIP rider.

My condolences go out to the rider, his family and his friends. My brother was riding his motorcycle home from work four weeks ago when a SUV turned left infront of him. He was seriously hurt, on the edge of death. Luckily EMS arrived fast and he was airlifted to a Toronto trauma unit. Four weeks later, he is still in the hospital improving very slowly. I don't know how he will be after all of this, but thank heaven he is alive. My heart goes out to all involved.
